As far as I can determine it has been 6 1/2 years since the last topic like this. Surely there have been additions to some of your collections. I will start.
Looking first at top center then going clockwise -

-Bailey Brower's "Savage Pistols" book with early 1907-08 32 caliber with metal grips. One of first 3000 pistols manufactured.

-Daniel Stern's "10-Shots Quick" book with very rare factory ‘A’ engraved model 1907-10 Modification No. 2 32 caliber - I think the general consensus is there were only about 100 savage pistols of all models that were engraved by the factory - plus extra magazine

-Savage Arms Company 32 automatic pistol ammo box - cartridges are headstamped SAP - pre-1916.

-Three holsters for Savage pistols - top is an Audley, middle is a Folsom's Audley and bottom is an unmarked Audley copy.

-Repro Savage catalog with Model 1915 32 caliber and three watch fobs. From Right to left, Panama Pacific Exposition San Francisco 1915 depicting Native American with headdress holding rifle, fob in the shape of Savage 1907 pistol, and arrowhead with native American. The latter is not from Savage but since Brower included one like this on the cover of his book, I thought I could too.

-Unmarked holster with 1907-13 Modification No. 4 .380 caliber and spare magazine. Holster is a little long for .32 but fits .380 like a glove.

-Remington Dogbone box 32 automatic ammo dating to 1931-1933.

-James Carr's Savage Automatic Pistols book with rare factory nickel 1907-10 Modificaion No. 2 32 caliber. My understanding is only about 600 pistols of all models were factory nickel.

R - The only known Savage Model 101 engraved.

Well done. grin

John, I can duplicate your picture but would have to substitute some French Contract holsters for Audley's.

Not many pistol posting on here but I know there are a few here that are pretty deep in them.

A couple of questions that I have... why are some magazines not blued at the mouth (magazine on our Carr book)? Another has to do with the letter B in the .380 serials . 1907-13-1,B2000 - B2350, the serial should start with B but #2050 has the B at the end (2050B) and 1907-13-2 and later should have the B at the end yet
2728, 2817, 2819 and probably others, all have the B at the start of the serial.

Then there is the Savage brand .380 cartridges that are head stamped SAP .32 .
Well, I can't duplicate that picture! frown
This represents all 25 models, calibers & variations per Carr.
Plus French, Portuguese and some deluxe pistols.
I'll have a nice display at the next Savage Fest.

Looks good, RickR.

Another question I have is with the 1907-13-3, .380's. From a serial range of 650 pistols, 250 of them were shipped to the military in Columbia S.A.. Are the serials of the 250 know? Anyone have one?

Southern WI Savage - Wow, what a staggering photo of your collection! I am way behind in my collecting. Wish I could see it in person but those Savage Fests are always in the Midwest or East. Also, the model 101s are interesting. I am going to try to find one at the next gunshow to take a closer look.

Rick99 - I am a miserable failure of a Savage Pistol collector as I cannot answer any of your questions off the top of my head. Would love to see your collection.
I have a couple of .380's one in nickel , another .380 that I have been told was the last to leave the factory, all with letters, is some one will help with photos I will send picures

They would look great at my Rendezvous also!! Very impressive Rick.

You will find magazines from other makers the same way, It was explained to me that some magazines had the lips dipped in a case hardening compound like Kasenit and the hardened steel will take take the blue.

Southern WI Savage - I aspire to have half the savage collection that you do. What is the bolt action pistol in the photo with the watch fobs?

Good question.
It appears to be a cut down Model 1904 or 1905 .22 made into a custom pistol.
It is very nicely done but I doubt anything that came from the factory. Continue to research.
Savage did do some proto-type sorts of pistols, just not sure if this is one of them.
It has a Lincoln penny mounted on the bottom of the grip dated 1910.
And it functions!

Savage made several 1904 proto-type pistols maybe in more then one style

Yes I see 2-3 proto-type .22's pictured in Bailey's book.
I'll disassemble and inspect this one further to see if any other clues or markings may indicate Savage factory work.
The barrel address stamp has 1905 patent date and the rec'r is serialized. Don't recall the number off hand.
Looks like I'm going to dig deeper.........
I have a half dozen pistols but dont really collect them, only two are significant. One is a 101 for dummies and the other a 1907 in 32 that was a personal carry weapon in vietnam ! grin
Just shake my head at the Portuguese M/915 Manual paper. One of my 'white whales', I have two boxes but never scored the paper ... yet. John W made me a copy of manual for reference.
Hello guys! I only have 1 Savage pistol, a 1907 in .380 that I'm working on fixing. I've been able to find most of the parts to repair it. Still trying to get a new style sear for it. And it appears there should be a pin for the sear to pivot on too. Will probably have to make a loaded chamber indicator.

Welcome to the Campfire DK65.
Sounds like you are on the right track for your repair.
I don't have donor parts or pistol, but ebay has parts from time to time and donor pistols can be had occasionally too.
If you figure out how to make a load indicator for either .32 or .380, make extras and come back to sell them here.
Greetings Dan, did you ever find your .380 Parts?

There is no pin in any of the M1907 sears. The small hole in the breechbolt behind the sear houses a sear spring, sear rotates on its small 'arm'.

Your pistol must be M1907-13-Mod 2 or higher as you specifically said 'new style' sear. I assume a Type 3, as The Type 3 fits .380 M1907-13-Mods 2 through 4, M1907-19 and M1907-20 variants.

I am pretty sure I have all the parts you need.

I even have a few spare cartridge indicators but do not sell them, reserving them for critical restorations. Be careful trying to make one unless you absolutely only use it for display. I and my brother have been down the road of trying to fabricate them by hand and quotes from commercial sources. Firing one with a hand-made one with no tempering is 'exciting' if it deflects with return to battery and catches the slide ... I suspect that is the reason so many were broken. Can be done, but due to fabrication setup, minimal unit runs, tempering etc, no one would buy them when the unit price will exceed a nice pistol.

I am not too frequent on here but trying to do better You can contact me directly at [email protected].

Best,
Also DK

I have not bought any Savage pistols in years but I still have few in the back of the safe. Some are pristine, some are practically worn smooth but they all work.

Very nice !
Wow! You guys have some really nice pistols and displays. May have to think about to start looking into them myself. I’m sure the wife will be thrilled.

That takes an incredible commitment.

Impressive.
Absolutely nothing much to see here. But then again, I don't really seek them out.

1917 in .380 that came with the Audley holster. And a 1907 in 32. I liked them both so here we are. And I also picked up the 101 years ago along with it's box and some papers

Ok, so there are the Murray and Royal reference books for collecting 99’s. What would be the equivalent books for collecting Savage pistols?
Thanks
Bailey Brower's book would be a good start. See the picture in the first post on this thread.
Ok thanks Steve99

The equivalent would be;
- Savage Automatic Pistols/James Carr/1968
- Savage Pistols/Bailey Brower/2008

Both are excellent Savage Pistol books.
Carr's is more of a reference book and Bailey's a coffee table book.
Carr wrote with respect to .32's & .380's and Bailey with respect to models 1907/15/17.
