Anyone have a supplier for a no drill sling for a 99, i have a butler creek on laying around but it is more for shotguns i think.

When do you need one? I’m in discussions with a guy on [bleep] to make a no drill sling.

There is a guy in Carlisle PA who goes by "The Leatherman"

He makes no drill slings for muzzleloaders and shotguns. I have one for a shotgun which I'm sure would work equally well for a 99.

While my 99F has sling swivel attachments, a 99 fits so well as a one handed walk around rifle, mine is never getting a sling. I always have some rope in my pack and if I ever needed an over the shoulder carry on that rifle, I would just tie up something temporary. I don't shoot very far here and for me to be walking around with a slung rifle, I'd just be out for exercise. Being a WI. guy, you might hunt a different kind of area than what I do.

Not a big rush, turnbull makes one, but the guy who makes them wont have more available till xmas time. I have been using a butler creek one, that is more for shotguns and doesn’t really stay in place on a 99. Thanks for responses!

Romac, how does the universal sling sinch down on stock behind pistol grip, and the forearm, or barrel for that matter?

The stock end side is a sliding leather snare and the barrel end is a fat loop that would snug up on a forend of a 99.

I use it mostly for carrying a CSMC 20 gauge double slug gun that I don't want to scratch up with a sling.

Romac, im sure anything with a schabel will hold better, how about on an E from the 70’s? I just dont want the sling sliding off when im pulling it up into stand

I'll check tonight but I bet if you put the snare loop between the trigger guard and the grip and pulled it up butt first you'd probably be fine as long as you put tape over the muzzle to keep anything from getting in.

Why do you need a sling in the stand?

Here it is in the rack on my CSMS Slug gun and then I switched it to a .375 Brush. I don't own any e's. I think it would work.

Why a sling? Multiple Reasons:

- Walking to your stand in the dark hands free
- Attach a pull up rope to it to get in your stand and then pull it up
- Using it to create multiple points of firm contact to steady a shot if you don't or can't use a rest, like a running shot
- Carrying your gun while dragging a deer out of the woods

Thanks for pics, yeah that looks like it would work fine, and i agree with all reasons to have a sling, I wouldn’t be with out one.

Sling is nice when you are climbing into or out of stand. When I was about 16 a step broke leaving me hanging by one hand. My EG was in my other hand and did not have a sling. I had to drop it about 10 feet to the ground. The safety slid off and the lever popped open ejecting the bullet that was in the chamber. It's conceivable that the rifle could have fired maybe blowing me away. I always cleared the rifle going up or down stands after that.

When getting into or out of an elevated stand, I use a haul line with the muzzle down. The ONLY time I use a sling is when I am dragging a deer............ And that ain't often.

The nice thing about that sling is there is no way it can scratch anything and it is easy to take off if you want to, even with cold hands.

No little screw heads to back out or spring loaded bars to mess with and absolutely no squeaking. No buckles to hit the safety bar on your ladder stand making noise at the worst time etc...

I just asked why a sling in your stand. A hasty sling that wraps around the barrel isn't my idea of a good idea

maybe it would eliminate wear on the receiver
