I was watching this pre-war 99 F on GB. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/927205867

The seller listed the serial number as 363472 with a year of manufacture of 1936 which should be close for this serial number. (Maybe 1937) But look at photos 18 and 22. The buttplate and barrel address are consistent with a rifle manufactured in 1927-1928. It's hard to tell, but the receiver blue looks like it might be the high gloss blue found in the 1928 time frame. I asked the seller if the serial numbers matched, but I received no response. The wood to metal fit all looks good, and it doesn't appear like a "bubba" job to me. But I can't explain the serial number and barrel address discrepancies.

Any thoughts?

Looking through my data it looks like E's and F's after 1931 are a hard find. They might have had to scrounge parts to build it.

The barrel address was used till at least 334xxx range so might have been on in the bottom of the bin. Front and rear sights are correct. Stock fits good. Don't know what to think about the blue. I agree that it looks more like some of the ones in the late 20's, early 30's. To bad the receiver blue is not better. Rifle is in nice condition other than that.

I think it came from the factory that way but without checking serials can't be sure.

Thanks for posting. These odd ball rifles are fun to puzzle over.
