Anyone have an idea as to value of one in 308, new, unfired. I have a Blue Book. Those prices may or may not be good.

Cowboy,

I know of a set of DE's and PE's in all calibers at around $2200 each. They've been for sale for over 3 years. I'd guess yours at around $2000 with box and all papers. I think there were more PE's made than DE's and I don't know the balance of caliber production but would guess that the non 308's might sell better. The big question is can you find a ready buyer at that price?

Thanx. I saw a 284 PE on the internet for 1600 awhile back. Cabela's had a DE for 1700 a while back also. It seems like the prices are all over the place. Any idea how many were made?

Cowboy,

I don't have any info on these. Murray lists the starting serial at a round 1,140,000 and I think that serial range topped out around 1,180,000 (?) before switching to the Series A in `69. Sorry, not much help.

Is there a historian at Savage by chance. I have called and get no answer. As though the receptionist thinks there is one there but the desk is empty. I think I am the guy all the collectors look for who walks into the gunshow and pays top dollar for something that everyone else can get cheaper. I never see any of the cheaper stuff. It seems to stay in the closet until after I buy. Somebody on another thread was talking about 500 dollar pre 64 Winchesters. They are not around when I am looking.

Thanx. I just have some general questions. Will see what Murray says first. Maybe I overlooked something.

Are you talking about M70's or M94 Win. that your
having trouble finding? At Wisconsin gun shows you can
usually find pre-64 M94 .30-30's and .32's for about
$375+/- in about 90% to 97% condition. I'm talking about 3-12 per show.
I wish #3 Rugers were as prevalent, as I can't seem to locate one(see my 10-21-02 post). I guess I'll also have to get more realistic on my .300 EG price and bring it down to $525. (Also, because I've got my eye on a
pretty trim M99 .30-30) Good luck on finding your M94
I know I couldn't part with mine(maybe) Contender

I am talking about Winchester 70s and Savage 99s. I have some Savages which I paid top dollar for. It boiled down to, if I wanted it, I had to pay for it. All but one are new or as new. It is that part that comes high. I have a problem with the prices on Model 70s too, thats why I have not bought any. Geographic location has something to do with it I think. When I was ststioned on the East Coast a few yrs ago, savages were easy to find in nice shape at reasonable prices. You just do not see them here in 95%+. They are wll used. Look at collectorsfirearms.com to see what I mean. It is a neat place.
