https://www.gunbroker.com/item/947048534Just to get something going here for the weekend:
Anybody else watching this? I know it's a live auction, but I feel like this one fits into the category of the profoundly ridiculous.
It's crackin me up.
Fire away....
I'd put this one squarely into the more money than sense category.
It does make me very curious what the reserve is set at, though, good gravy π€―
Those are his buddies running up the score. Those bidders know the reserve and don't have any intention of buying that rifle. Classic case of shill bidding. 7K bid on a <1K rifle.
Hilarious.
Forearm looks like someone carved it out of a d i l d o.
Even the sheer possibility of someone paying that makes me glad I slum it with LGS beaters.

Lmao π
You guys would laugh at someone's ugly baby too, wouldn'tcha?
So how much of that rifle still in original condition? Maybe the barrel?
Owner must be convinced he is sitting a gold mine
This rifle clearly falls into the "Custom-Deluxe" category..., custom engraving, custom checkering, custom forearm and recoil pad..., bet it even has the checkered trigger! ... but it's no real surprise when a nice rifle is loved and "customized" a bit, and then falls into the wrong hands, where it gets un-loved and abused, then takes the next fall into an orphanage, or some carpet-bagger snake-oil salesman's wagon, who throws some lipstick on it, so everyone will see it's "real Value", which eventually lands it in the circus freak-show, where it becomes "Deluxe- Deluxe", and even comes with a bit of "real" history to back it up! ...
I'm always curious how a rifle, who someone must have loved and cared for at some point, and embellished it a bit to add more to their personal enjoyment, then loses the love, loses it's forearm, loses it's shine, and loses it's grasp of reality..., then gets sold into the Circus..., Cody has no records to tell You about those parts, and Enoch Tue definitely has nothing to say on the matter, ...
P.T Barnum knew the Circus trade, and concluded, "there's an ass for every seat"
He got 1 thing right.
???????A gun like this only appears once in a lifetime Also has a NR shill bidder pushing it up! Hmmm... 'Reserve not Met' at 7K+
I wish I'd never read Roy's post - I feel nauseous.
I triple dog dare ya to throw a bid at it. (As he defied all schoolyard protocols and bypassed the double dog dare.)

Not to nitpick, but he bypassed the triple dare too....

$10,000 even!
... I think he's got a whole team of shill bidders!.. there's only 6 hours left to get your own silly bid in. Why not? worse that will happen is You'll win the auction, tell him you're not paying a wooden nickel, and burn through one of Your online reputations, then You get to call the seller out publicly,..., or get a job as one of his shill bidders!
Or, just maybe the gun was Townsend Whelen's personal rifle, given to him by the president of Savage at an NRA banquet, customized by Virgil Howe (it does look kinda like his work), and eventually gifted to General MacArthur who buried it in a vault in Manila to avoid capture by the Japanese. Post-war it was acquired by Phil Sharpe who used it to work up loads he published in his "Handloader's Guide", and finally campaigned by a certain Oregonian in his run-up to the Shot Heard 'Round the World".
Or not.
It met the reserve.. a shill bidder wouldn't bid it above the reserve? Somebody will be paying fees/etc on it.
Cool. A perch belly buttstock and a pot belly forearm!
tirebuster2 thought it was worth 10K and he's no shill bidder. Has bought a few lately.
What did we miss?
I think someone here knows something but is being quiet...?
Nobody that Iβve talked to thinks itβs factory, Mike.

I think he fell into the trap.
Some people have more money than b.a..s.
The engraving has very deep relief does not look at all like Tue to me
some one must have seen another engraver's work and believe
this to be factory. The moose scene looks much different than
the one on P.J.Noel's Monarch in .22 H.P.
OK, that's the last word then. thanks!
