What is a "reasonable price"?

Nothing 99 is cheap right now.

Whenever someone makes a blanket statement on the internet, some smartass has to prove them wrong! LOL $250 plus the background and FFL fees = $280 I cleaned it and repaired the latch mechanism. 1926 99F in 300 Savage, matching numbers, no extra holes in metal or wood, good bore, alligatored stock finish.

nice rifle. It looks like it has the early medium weight barrel with the late lightweight type front sight. I covered the early sights in excruciating detail on pages 68 and 69 of the collectors guide.
I had an F in 300. Really liked but let a friend talk me out of it.

Nice! šŸ˜

I felt like a kid on Xmas morning when I found my 1948 EG 300 last year under $300, and it isn't nearly as nice as that F.

It must be a thing, I have a friend talking me out of this one too! LOL It's his favorite model. What the heck, it's all fun and games. It's not a really nice rifle, just a really nice rifle for the money. If you figure the latch mechanism it's a $400 rifle. Here's what it looked like when I bought it. I figured the varnished leather would have taken all the bluing off the barrel but it's fine. Took a chance and won.

Not to be a smart ass but that doesnā€™t look like a 308 to me.

Just sayin.

This statement doesn't specify 308 only. I was responding to your statement specifically, not the 308.

crazy

Gotcha.

But you're right, Savages for the most part aren't cheap right now.

If it were me

I would look at purchasing a 300 Savage.

IMO the action was designed for the 300 savage.

I have found the Winchester model 88 was better suited for the 308 Winchester.

The BLR also likes the 308.

But then you are in to ā€œ Hammer timeā€!

I know nothing is cheap now. Savage 99, with counter in .308. Seven hundred is my ball park.

You sold me a 99F in 300, but it was a '50s featherweight.

This was a TD 99F made in the 30's. It went to a friend in Idaho Falls.

I spent 750.$ I think, about 5 years ago, on a DL in .308, leupold M8 4x on it. Excellent condition. Consensus at that time seemed to be I prob spent a 100 or so more than I should have, but Iā€™ve never regretted it. Mines not for sale, but I havenā€™t been looking much lately to know whatā€™s available and for how much $.

It's never that you spent too much for a gun, it's a question of how long you have to keep it before the value catches up. grin

$750 for a DL now would be a heck of a good price.

Pressed checkering. But otherwise pretty mint. Not a collector so I never really cared about the checkering. I did care about the condition. Kinda figured it wouldnā€™t be that longā€¦
