doe antelope zip, battered 284 DL one
Bad shot. I aimed behind the shoulder and hit her thru the front shoulders. It took her till I walked up to her before she died. Range 190 plus yards.
This speed goat is nice but I've got a bull elk tag and the season ends on Halloween. We need a storm to drive the elk down. Roy you are up wind from me, send us a storm with lots of snow.
Thats how you do it. Congrats!!
Let the killing begin! Nice job David.
All we got here is smoke and heat brother, no help for at least a week.
Congrats sir. Nicely done.
Roy, we've got some high clouds but the weather forecast says no. Our lows have been below freezing for a couple of weeks but it'll take snow to drive them down.
Thats how you do it. Congrats!!
No, the exit hole on the other side really destroyed some meat. But it won't go to waste. I gave the goat to a neighbor who said he'll feed the blood shot meat to his chickens. He also asked me to bring the guts from my future kills for his chickens.
nice rifle and deer mbogo 2106
Thanks wyo,
Earlier this spring a buddy called and asked if I knew anyone interested in a used and slightly abused 99 in .300 Savage. Well I happened to know a guy (me) who was, and for the friend discount, I picked it up. Since it wasn’t a collector item I decided to freshen it up a little. I worked on it off and on during the summer until it ended up like you see in the pic. I was bound and determined to kill something with it this year so after gleaning four boxes of brass from dad, and loading a 150 partition over some Varget, here was the result.
The rifle came out in 51’ and the scope is an old Weaver medalist 3x9. I decided to leave it alone when it made 1/2 to 3/4” groups.
you can't beat that accuracy in a 99
My wifes 1st moose. And her 1926 vintage .303 that I restocked to fit her. Two shots with 150 gn hornady round nose over IMR 4064. The 2nd shot was redundant, I prefer not to risk a longer than necessary pack job!
Very nice! Great family pic.

Wonderful photo! Very nice and with a classic rifle and caliber.
It doesn't get any better than that. A woman with a 303, killing a nice bull moose. And the kids got in on the deal.
The rifle looks like a 99C.
A family memory that will last forever! Well done to the all of you!
Yukon 7x57,
We do a Kill Page every year.
You very well might have the best pic of the year.
Congratulations on the moose. And great family picture. I bet your kids are growing up pretty darn cool.
Yukon , nice job all around ,nice looking 99 and family, great looking bull and the dog is cool...mb
Congrats! Great picture!
Just a thought.....

The rifle looks great. Very well done.
What weight charge of Varget did you use with the 150 partitions?
Keep it coming. It's all great stuff.
My friend Liam and the one we called the Swamp Bear. Killed with a 1966 Savage 110 7mm mag. When carving it up, his wife found that it had a .375 caliber bullet behind the left shoulder blade in a wad of puss. I put it there last year. So much for the .375 Winchester....
Shooting this rifle has been sort of interesting. When I got the cases from my dad, he included a box of loaded ammo. Some ancient Federal 150 soft points. They even had corrosion on them 🤣🤣. So after I had it all back together, it shot the Federal into a nice 3/4” group. 41 grains of Varget shot the same group to the same point of impact. So I figured that would do.
And note the $6.19 price written on the boxes. 😳
Congratulations to all who have made meat with a fine hunting arm! That moose pic is great yukon7x57!
Today was my day to fill a tag. Real nice blacktail and a fabulous hunt. Rifle is the old Savage 110 7 mag shooting, you guessed it, the 145 grain Speer btsp. Same bullet I shoot in the 284. Fantastic bullet.
Glassed him and his friend up at 900 yards on the next ridge over. Made the trip across and stalked into 100 yards or so. Shot him in his bed when he stood up.
nice one. Going out elk hunting in a few minutes

Everyone involved with THAT hunt should be struttin' like a Peacock. THANK YOU for sharing and Congratulations.
Congrats! And where did you find Breezy? Her fence is down and she keeps escaping.
Nice one Roy! and another good story! Saw him at 900 yds, 7mag with no recoil pad!(REAL man stuff!)!

Thanks Jeff. Hunting blacktails like this is my dream hunt. I'm fortunate to be able to do it every year. When I got him home and went to hoist him up in the garage I realized my hoist was still in deer camp, 30 miles away. I looked around and found my dads old hoist, the one I grew up using when dad, grandpa, mom, and I got blacktails. Cool I thought, I'll just use this one.
As I began to lift him out of the truck with the old hoist a wave of emotion overtook me when I saw that blacktail going up that hoist. I got all choked up and had to stop for a minute and get my composure.
Dad and grandpa must be looking down thinking "I think that boy was paying attention".
Sure wish they were both here now so we could talk about big ol' blacktails like the old days. Dad could repeat the story of the one he jacklighted in the orchard and shot with the Parker shotgun and how it charged him and he bent the barrels of that shotgun over it's rack when it went by him. grandpa could tell the story of how he jumped a big 4x4 blacktail from his bed and shot it in the back of the head as it dodged and weaved to get out of there. On his way over to find it, it jumped up and he had to shoot it again.
When he got there, there were two big bucks laying a few feet apart. That happened in 1924 and you were allowed two deer back then. This is that pair (on each side of a mule deer I got archery hunting in 1987).
"..how it charged him and he bent the barrels of that shotgun over it's rack when it went by him. grandpa could tell the story of how he jumped a big 4x4 blacktail from his bed.."
I shot him in my pajamas! .., how he got in them I'll never know!"
Great stories, Great memories Roy! Yes, obviously You were paying attention!
great stories. I love this kind of stuff
great stories. I love this kind of stuff
Well, in that case...
Tonight I drove the 30 miles to get my camp buttoned up and bring it home. I stopped and glassed a mountainside and found a great bear. He was headed downhill, probably to water, and wow, what a bruiser.
I got over there as fast as I could but the big bastard gave me the slip. Dang it, but I glassed all the canyons and circled the mountain right before dark. Came across some big buck tracks and had a grand time. All that after work.
great pictures Roy, what is the bear density around there? You seem to find them whenever you want!
Good numbers of bears. Much easier to find than big blacktail bucks!
Yesterday late morning chasing a doe.
Very nice and a good looking rifle.

old cow elk zip, EG 308 1
Nice! good looking EG too.

i am taking my barrel band carbine in the morning to try to get a deer with it,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Just wanted to let you guys know that Savage numbers go higher than 99
Both were taken with a 110 25-06 117 Horn SST. 303 yds and 340 yds
Seems like overkill to me!
The heavy equipment I mean. Just kidding-nice shooting.
LHS
A nice hunting pic from MnFn. We believe the rifle to be a 1928 99H in 303 restocked with prewar 99R wood. Makes a dandy hunting rifle, and love the brown color of the antlers.
Nice buck and nice rifle. That rifle will look nice in my safe someday. 🙂
You will probably have to talk to your cousin about that. I can’t give you all my R’s.
I kinda like it. As you said, Savage should have made more like this, really a neat little rifle.
Looks even better with a new Lyman peep on it!
Thanks Rory for posting it.

Glad you like the rifle.
I do Roy very much. Thanks.
If you're gunna shoot sumthin, shoot sumthin cool.
I have an unfired 99PE and she’s a show case queen. When I stumbled on this DE that had obvious use I couldn’t help myself. I’d like to find a DE unfired to put up with the PE but for now I will rock this one in the field.
Very cool to see a high grade piece get some field use. That is some absolutely beautiful wood on there.
It shoots and operates as good as it looks. It by far out performs my BLR. I’m new to the 99 world but i am hooked.
My holy grail gun is a PE in 284. I think I could live with two rifles, a shotgun, and a couple handguns if one of the rifles was a PE in 284. Already have one in 308 but that's boring.
So my grandfather had a PE in .284 and he hunted with it. That’s all I remember him carrying. It was passed to my cousin and he sold it. That’s what got me looking for one. I had the opportunity to buy a .284 but couldn’t stomach the price. I was fortunate enough to come across a .308 unfired that was affordable. I will always have my eye out for a .284. Dreams are to have a PE in each of the three calibers. If I am to be that lucky.
Joe-ZERO!
Yotes- One.
They cheat and start early.
had that happen with an antelope many years ago. too bad
Nice looking rifle though
