...a 22" .410 barrel, missing all hardware. Also, a ruff 26" .25-35 oct. brl.

I almost bought the 25-35 barrel but they wouldn't/couldn't tell me the condition of the bore. For that much money I wasn't going to take the chance. I thought the 410 barrel was way overpriced especially if you buy the parts that go with it ( looks like they have most of them for sale separately).

Was still trying to make up my mind on the 25-35, now that it's announced to the forum I suppose I should make up my mind sooner than later.
It looks like a round barrel to me. Either way I put the order in so we'll see.

Well that makes the final decision for me. Let us know what the bore is like on that barrel.
damnesia did you need that other barrel we talked about earlier? Be glad to see you get it.

Hmm. I must have missed it.

Oh I must have missed your reply. I'll read the thread again.
The barrel arrived. It is a 26" round barrel. The bore is probably the best I have seen on any Savage. Crazy deep and sharp rifling. Maybe that's normal for a 25-35?

Anyway, it's fitted to the receiver but I'm having trouble getting the right rotor/cartridge guide/cartridge stop combination. I don't have another 25-35 here so I'm going almost blind. I think I'm going to have to start pulling out guns and reverse engineering by process of elimination to see if I can end up with the right parts.

By chance, are there any photos out there? Numrich is a crapshoot on diagrams. Maybe I'll sideline the project and go something more rewarding. Like changing the air in all my tires or painting the wall studs.

I would start by injecting it with .22HP parts. Should be same-o same-o.
Do you have an actual 25-35 rotor?

I sent mine to Damnesia so I'm no help. Might have a cartridge guide...
I haven't been able to positively identify a 25-35 rotor yet. I do have a naked 22HP rotor so marked, and I have all the shaft/spring assembly cannibalized from others. I think the cartridge guide is a bigger deal at this point than anything. Every one I have that allows the rotors to spin allows the main fin to orient too straight up, blocking the cartridge entry into the spool. I did a little bending on one cartridge guide but I'm not there yet.

Damnesia did offer his 25-35 rotor since I sent him a 300 barrel he needed, but I'm trying not to take him up on it just yet. I could use a photo of one though to see if I have the right one. If I could identify the 25-35 parts I could go from there.
The one I sent him actually has 25 stamped on it. I didn't compare it to others.

What still baffles me is the 22HP and 303 rotors. They look absolutely identical to me...?

I would take gnoahhh suggestion and use 22hp parts. I have some 25-35's that have the rotors stamped "22h.p." on them and they cycle fine.
Man, I'll bet that barrel SHOOTS! And what a cool find.

I'm anxiously awaiting the results, my friend.

Have a great new years everyone.

Thank you gnoahhh and all for the info. It's been quite a few hours of barrel fitting and action work but we now have resurrected a 25-35 barrel. Savage quit making the 25-35 in 1917, and the receiver is 1920, so not exact but close. I had planned on cutting a slot in the barrel to make it match the takedown receiver but about halfway thru the fitting process decided to just set the barrel up tight and forget it. I don't need the extra work of cutting a slot in the barrel.

I used the 22HP rotor and did some switching around of the cartridge guides until I found one close, then I tweeked it by bending the tabs slightly to perfect the cycling. In and out with the rotor, cartridge guide, and cartridge stop about 500 times but it cycles fine now. I took it out in the pouring rain and at 25 yards I was popping rocks no problem with it using some pretty old Rem UMC ammo. When I used up the old ammo I got into more modern Rem ammo and it was noticeably zippier, and all shot fine. No recoil to speak of, what a joy to shoot.

It shoots 3" high at 25 yards but that might not be too bad at 125 or so. I'll check it later when the weather is nicer. It has a #15 rear sight all the way down, and I took the original sight off the front because it is way too fine for my eyes and put a globe/target style up front with a thick post. Works great, albeit shooting a tad higher than maybe we need. Too wet outside to go further with it now.

I need to fit the forearm slightly to button this project up. Thanks again for the insights. I'll get some photos up a little later today.

Woohoo! I love to see plans come together.

Steve, how nice to see you posting! Don't be a stranger.

Listen, if I ever need enabling on a project I know you guys are up for the job! I've been looking for a "decent" 25-35 for close to 10 years. I just wanted a shooter but it seems like most anything that hits the market is absolute junk. The super nice ones were just more than I wanted to play with. This is perfect.

25-35s are a lot of fun to shoot. I've found one 99 in 25-35 that had an "okay" bore. Decent shooting 1899F with the wrong butt stock on it.
Posted By: gnoahhh Re: FYI - Numrich Arms has... - 12/31/22
Seems like every .25-35 I ever looked at had a junky bore. Once stumbled onto one in a local sporting goods store's used rack - 1899 solid frame carbine, beautiful condition, and I thought , "Finally!" Nope, sewer pipe bore, and I walked away from it even though the price was a bargain.
Lots of patina. LOL I found a taller front sight post for the Lyman M1 in the 17A kit which should put me right on. I'm happy as a clam to have a 25-35 with a great bore.

Very nice job Roy, always wanted one but all iv looked at the bores were terrible! Seems we all agree on that! Found a nice one, at a show one time a src. F, with a full length scope on it. I went to the bank and it was gone when I got back.

John you should have put a deposit down! Dang your luck! Why in the world are so many of the 25-35's bores trashed?

Savage must have had an interesting rotor assembly process when one arrived unmarked.None of the internal parts are marked either.I guess each rifle was hand fitted.
Swapped out the sights again because I just could not see the front post inside the globe Lyman sight. I need my front sight to have some light hitting it. Front sight has an ivory bead. Added a tang peep that's windage and elevation adjustable and has four size apertures on a rotating disc.

nice project Roy i need to check the bore on the one i just bought, Mod B at 91xxx pretty nice shape ,not quite as nice as yours.

I offered to put a couple of hundred down, guy said he hold it, just going to be a hour. He said a guy had a handful of cash.

that's a beauty Roy. Go out and kill something with it.
Excellent work Roy! Can't tell it from a factory complete specimen from what I see.
