Hey guys live in CA so limited to non-lead. Deer hunting with Savage 99F 250 cal. 22” barrel, 1x14 twist. Looking at Barnes TTSX 80 gr. Or Hornady CX 90 gr. If you have an opinion on which projectile and load data it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
I have a 99DL with the 1-10" twist so it may not work for you, but this gun likes 32 grains of RL15 with a coal of 2.558" with the Barnes 80 gr TTSX. Sighted 1 1/4" high @ 100 yards.
I wrote a long winded diatribe to your same query you posted on the handloading forum elsewhere here on the 'Fire. I'm out of breath so I won't repeat it here!
Consensus from the reloaders group is Hammer bullets 67g for the 1-14” Have to play with the powder load…
How well does that bullet hold together when slammed into meat and bone at well over 3000fps (given if its driven at full tilt potential out of a .250-3000)? Dunno, why I'm asking. I would experiment in that regard before going afield with it. If you do that, I for one would appreciate a report.
