New here to the Savage forum. Have been a member on the Campfire but rarely signed in but will correct that from now on. I’m very interested in a Savage 99 CD that appears to be in very good condition. It’s a 243 which for me is desirable. This would be my first Savage. The listing is on Gun Broker for 1400. Any assistance from the experts here on what would be an honest value would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The later 99's in 243 are pretty rare. The medallion on the stock was 1976 only. CD's were only made for 5 or 6 years. Seems like a good price to me.

Thank you for your reply. I bought the gun.

Now that I have this CD coming, I’ll be looking for a correct period scope suggestions with mounts. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Weaver "K" series made in El Paso. Tx Weaver bases 14 &19 I think.

I have a K4 Weaver scope that was mounted on my first deer rifle, 700 BDL back in 66. I was thinking that or a V7 period correct Weaver. I will look for those bases.

Weaver scopes from the era you note were prone to taking on water and fogging up. If you plan on hunting the gun a Leupold M7 or early M8 would be a far better choice.

Leupolds and Redfield from 1976 aren't hard to find.

I prefer Tasco BM99 1-piece bridge mount bases on my scoped 99s.

I have a 1976 vintage 99CD in 257AI, rechambered from 250-3000, with a Tasco BM99, Warne rings, and a Redfield 3-9x.

I'm with 260. I have old glass on most of my rifles, but my 1981 250 Saddle Gun is wearing a Leupold 1.5X5.

I will look for a Leupold as I refer it over Redfield. Will also look for the Tasso BM 99 mount. Recently saw that Weaver has pre-drilled Picatinny mount for a 99. I wonder if anyone has tried that?

I don't know who made it but I posted a picatinny on one of my 99's on some time ago.

Here's a Tasco on ebay. Helluva deal! Ebay

I saw that and considered it. The box states for Remington 700/722s.

I like the picatinny rail mount. Wait it was pre-drilled for Savage 99s.

They use the same pic for all the listings. They do have the Savage if you buy it. Just got an email from them.

Reached out to a close friend who had some spare glass on hand. 2.5 x 8 x33 VX2 Leupold. While newer, it size will mimic a period correct scope. BTW I found used scope prices were almost sticker shock.
