Would like to know anything you can give on the Savage 342 just picked one up in 22 Hornet very accurate older rifle but a plain Jane.

That is a late production bolt similar to a 325 or 340 correct? I have never owned or shot one yet I have several magazines for one. The junk a guy accumulates.

The 840 was the late run model, the 342s were a lot earlier.

Very early model.

The 342’s I’ve seen are in 22 Hornet. Noticed the codes indicating early years

Introduced in 1950, I believe. Not sure when the 342 ended. Should have a date code stamped on the barrel - circle with 1 or 2 numbers followed by a letter.
B = 1950
C = 1951
D = 1952
etc (skipping O and Q)

As you said, pretty plain rifles but mine is very accurate.
