While you guys are all warmed up on your early fifties ,late forties gun I thought I would ask for some opinions. The time table by serial in Mr. Royals book says the last number in 45 was 427700. He also let us know the catalogues were not too regular at this time. I have an R number 429476 ,with the pre war type forearm. My request to get a letter only brought an order number but no info,my question is this am I correct that this is a 1946 gun , and is there any way to follow the the order numbers I got from cody museum? Cody only says after 1941, thanks in advance for your opinions.

Do the numbers match?

What is the barrel address?

Rory Reynoldson’s book, which I believe has more current data, shows 437700 as the highest number in 1945. My RT mentioned above is 432067. The historian letter states, “Production records show that this serial number was made shortly prior to November 1945.” (The letter referenced is a 1994 letter from Roe Clark who was then the Savage historian.)

Thanks guys I will have to dig it out of the safe tomorrow, the numbers match but I don't remember which barrel address. I really appreciate the help I have wondered about this gun for years, I will add the barrel address tomorrow.

My "lucky EG" is around 429,600 - and I lettered it thru Callahan and he said the shipping order was mid-1945. So that's probably a good estimate for yours also.

Missed that it was an R also.. that's a very late prewar style 99R. Very few show up after WW2.

Sorry for the delay getting back, I know some of you keep notes on these things. This R has the Utica barrel address. I don't know if it will help but Cody's check only showed after 1941 and two 0rder numbers. The order numbers are 81170 and 80046. As I said earlier I don't know if the order numbers can be of use but I don't know. I want to thank you guys for all the help.
