My local shop has a Savage 110 in 257 Roberts. Was this a factory chambering at one time?

Savage made a non-cataloged limited run of them in the pre-A/T 110 FNS format. I had 3 of them; F8620xx. F8620xx, and F8625xx. I pulled the barrel off of one of them and put it on an 11 action with the Accu-Trigger.

Do you know what year that was? Does FNS denote fiberglas stock no sights?

I don't know when they were made or who they were made for, but I bought one that was NIB in 2002.

F = synthetic stock (injection molded, not fiberglass) NS = no sights.

The serial numbers you provided are all from early in 2000.

I called Savage customer service and was told the the highest SN that I had, F8625xx, was made in March 2000. The CSR said that they were made for RSR Group, maybe for Davidson's, but she didn't have the specific company that ordered them or the actual number that were made. They are very uncommon. The barrel on the one that I parted out has been a good shooter with bullets in the 75 thru 120 grain range.

Bout 15 years ago I bought one from Cabellas. Think it might have been an exclusive to them. Sale price was $399. Grey-pepper laminate stock. Working up loads, had a 4 group target you could cover em all with a dime at 100 yards. Selling it it one of my biggest regrets in life.

I remember seeing Savage M110s in 257R many years ago. I dont think they made very many of them. Back in the late 90s I handled a Savage M110 in 222 REM w/plain jane birch stock, only one I have ever seen. Slightly off topic, but around the same time period Remington made 700ADL synthetics in 222 REM, 6MM REM and I believe 257R or was it 260 REM? Once again these are seldom seen also

The 700 ADL matte/synthetic rifles were from a limited non-cataloged run that was made for Grice Wholesale in Clearfield, PA. They were short actions chambered for all 4 cartridges that you've cited, I've owned a couple of them in 257 Roberts and 260 REM. I sold the 257 Roberts on this site in 2023, but I have a couple of these barrels in 257 and 260 that someone removed from donor actions.
