Was able to call in this turkey mid morning
Trusty 22 HP closed the deal about 25 yards out
10 inch beard
1 inch spurs
Customary selfie
22HP bursted out bugs it had had for breakfast
Nice rifle, good bird and pics . What load did you use and was their much meat loss??
Very nice! Shotgun only here..
Congrads, nice rifle and Tom!
very pretty rifle! , a checkered F , and bird! I'm envious of Your getting to use your rifle on Turkey
My first thought as well when I saw it, until I noticed the integral front sight. Not sure exactly what is going on there...

I think it's aftermarket checkered, guys. Beautiful hunting rifle tho.
I think it is an 1899-H with checkering added. Forearm is the earlier style with screw through rear metal and integral front sight.
Excellent, that is how turkey hunting should be done.
Used my “deer load” of reed 70gr on top of full case of leverevolution.
Meat loss was not bad for using a hi power rifle
This 22 HP was in not that good shape when i got it so i restored it, rebluing and new wood plus a couple of touches like checkering
Thanks all
My neighbors in WV use 5.56 bolt guns and they both say they shoot on the center of the breast bone, and it punches through with little to no damage to the breasts. Turkey comes in soon in WV, but I doubt I'll get a chance to go. If I do, it will be with the 22HP with the Malcolm scope.
Very nice rifle and bird, congrats!
what are the first 4 numbers of the serial number.

Got to Love the little IMP.
I loaded a 60 grain cast bullet at 1800 fps as a turkey load but alas never introduced a turkey to it. Got around 100 rounds of it around here someplace I should dig out and shoot up before it goes sour, haha!
Gotta be careful Joel, flashing a nicely executed non-standard Savage around here will get the minutiae oriented folks all a-twitter!
Very cool! 👍👍 that would be fun for sure. Great rifle for it, we can only use shotguns here.
Shotgun and pellet guns in Calif. never tried the pellet gun yet . There is a caliber restriction though.
