The 1904 Boys is a very cool rifle. A detail that I did not see from Jed's pics is that they have color case hardened triggers. I scooped up a 1904 Boys myself today. Barrel/receiver is patina(ed). That is to say it is a grey rat. No rust or pits. Bore is shiney. Wood is 90%. Bought it for less than a box of 303 brass because it would not shoot. The fireing pin would not strike the rim of the cartridge. After the deal was struck, I found that the rifle would fire if the bolt handle was pushed forward while the trigger was pulled. A fixable headspace problem.
It's for the kids you know ........ whistle grin
I'm interested in it cause around my neck of the woods , if you find one , they are usually pretty beat .

The Big Kid Or Little Kid???? grin grin

Yah, I know. Three lbs fully loaded. 18" barrel, adjustable for elevation open rear sight. 13" LOP. 8# trigger. Plus, with the knurled action screw, it is a take down. Perfect for a 45 year old.

While fixing the headspace issue on my 1904 Boy's, the receiver seem soft but I did not give that fact the attention I should have. I took the 1904 to the shooting range this morning and fired 10 five shot groups of various brands of .22 ammo to find which would shoot the most consistently. The rifle gave several impressive 1" groups at 25 yards with Winchester Power Points followed by Remington High Velocity. Soon after, the rifle started to missfire. In my fascination at how well I could shoot this simple .22 with open sights, I did not notice that the headspace issue not only returned but was actually worse after only 50 shots. The bolt locking slot had been battered severly and the rear of the receiver was tweaked out of round. If my 1904 Boy's is typical, it probably is not a good idea to shoot modern high velocity .22LR ammo through these old guns.
They sell standard velocity .22 rimfire cartridges and I always use these in the older .22's.

YOU HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH A LOT OF QUESTION ON YOUR 1904.
WELL I CAN SAY, THAT THE GUN YOU HAVE FOR SALE IS ONE OF THE HARDER TO COME UP WITH IN THE 1904'S. THE GUN WAS MADE 1904/1907 THIS MODEL WITH SIGHT IN REAR. 1907 ON SIGHT IN FRONT OF BOLT ON BARREL. FIRST THE REAR SIGHT THEN THE STOCK ALL RIGHT FOR THAT DATE. THE PRICE YOU HAVE ON THIS GUN IS A STEAL, BUT BY THE QUESTIONS I SEE PEOPLE ASK YOU ON IT. IT TELLS ME THAT MOST OF THEM HAVE NO IDEA OF THE RARETY ON THIS LITTLE GUN. BECUASE THE REAR SIGHT IS THE BIG GIVE AWAY ON THIS ONE. I HAVE TWO LIKE IT OR I WOULD STEAL IT FROM YOU AT THAT PRICE. AND NO JUST STANDARD VELOCITY AMMO IN THE OLDER 22'S. BUT PEOPLE CAN SHOOT HI-VELOCITY IF THEY WISH TO.
Phil ..... it's sold .
