I was reading about 22long's 250 99f and thought about my 300 savage 99f. Why does my 99f have a gold trigger and cartridge counter and my other two buddies have 99f's in 308 with no gold trigger? Is this a manufacturing year thing or is it a caliber thing?

Manufacturing year thing.

Can you elaborate on that at all, like what years the gold trigger was put out?

Murray doesn't reference anything about F's with gold triggers. Would have to dig through the catalogs and hope they were correct. If you want to provide the serial ranges of the rifles you are referencing I can ballpark production dates for them. I think the gold trigger was a 60's thing. Different models had them at different times.

Rick,

Its a post '60 thing. That '62 F in .243 I've got has a gold trigger. I think they made the change about the time that Marlin got the leg up on Winchester in the lever market. Savage musta though it was Marlin's gold trigger that put them there!

Thanks, the sn is 1028XXX with the mark on the front of the lever which is a 12M

RAM,

I said "60's thing", not 1960.

Mad_dog,

"12M "would be 1961.

What up Bud? I never said, or intimated it was a 1960 gun. In fact, I said my '62 F had a gold trigger. I guess I better support Doug a tad since you cut into him too, although he doesn't mention the gold trigger in the text, he does show a very clear picture of a gold trigger on a 1965 F on pp. 3-62. So, if a "picture is worth a thousand words" , then I guess he did "mention" it

RAM,

I thought you were picking on me again! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hey, you and the others are doing a great job of fielding questions. It's nice to be able to set back and watch. I don't know anything about the later rifles anyways.
