I remember a post about Albert Johnson awhile back,I didn't have my scanner working then but I do now.So hears a few pics from this book I have. The first one shows the rifle and one of the RCMP constables he wounded.Would this be a model H ?
This one shows the gear he had with him when he was killed.
This one is the cover of the book in case anyone is interested in picking it up.It's published by Heritage House.
His rifle is a 99-F, 30-30, #292218 and since it was made in 1927 it probably has the "MP" stamp on the barrel.
Thanks Rick,I wasn't aware that some "f's" were takedowns.
You not only have to know the model but the time period of the rifle.
1899-F
99-F, pre-WWII
99-F, post WWII, pre 1960
99-F, post 1960
All different.
Gotcha,the only F I own is a 57 or 58.
I was thinking an H because it looks just like my 22hp.
The 1899-H TD became the 99-F (pre-WWII) so you were on the right track.
I tried to buy the book off eBay last night. Saw one with a "buy it now" but the discription left a little to be desired, so I asked the seller a couple questions about it. BEFORE I got a reply, the book was GONE. Imagine that!!!! You snooze, you loose!!!!!
Yeap You Where Definitely Snoozing.
Great pics, thanks for scanning and posting those.
Kinda makes me like my 99F in 30-30 a bit more.
