Who has had a new tube screwed on and who did the work? Thanks

A rebore or reline might be a better way to go and less expensive. What do you have and what do you want to end up with?

About 3 years ago I bought a 26 inch tapered octagon barrel from Brownell's in 32 caliber. It's at a gunsmith in Illinois and he is making me a 32-40 out of an old trashed 99.New barrel, new wood, and old receiver.

Steely, usually for the price of a new barrel a different shooter 99 can be found. So not many do it. Now, a 32-40's a different thing, even shooters are pricey.

SH, Pac-Nor makes barrels for 99s. I don't know if they install them. You may want to e-mail them to inquire.

All I want is to move from that damn stupid 1-14" twist to a 1-9", thinking finding a pre-mil to fit that bill ain't gonna happen.

like2shoot, any idea if Pac-Nor threads for premils, or postmils, or both? I always presumed it'd be for postmils, but would love to find out I'm wrong.

http://www.pac-nor.com/prefit/ They list 99s here, but they don't get specific. They do list square threads for mausers.

Here is the contact info: http://www.pac-nor.com/

Under standard chambers they list: 30 Savage

300 Savage hum......

PAC-NOR can rebarrel popular bolt action rifles including Ruger model 77, Remington models 700, 721, 600, 7 and 30, Winchester model 70's (pre and post 64), 1903 and A3 Springfield, Enfield 1917 and 1914, CZ, Mauser, Sako, Savage and most others. All military and early manufactured commercial actions will be Rockwell hardness tested before barreling.

Any action found to be too soft to safely handle a desired cartridge will not be barreled and we will notify the customer before returning. Under no circumstance will an unsafe action be barreled. PAC-NOR does barrel Ruger models 1 and 3 but does not rebarrel other lever actions, slide actions, or semi-automatic rifles.

PAC-NOR lists Savage 99 under the Pre-Fit Barrels link.

PAC-NOR

Prefit barrels have gained acceptance with gunsmiths in the U.S., as well as most foreign countries. The prefit barrel comes to you with a short thread shank to be set back for proper head space; completely contoured, polished, handlapped, threaded, chambered, crowned, headspaced, and fitted to the action. (All prefit barrels should be fitted and headspaced only by a qualified and competent gunsmith.)

Prefit barrels can be supplied in any of the chamberings currently available
from PAC-NOR.
