I was looking thru the Cabela's Fall catalog last night. Like
doing that while half watching TV. Was going to order
some 250-3000 and 300 SAV and 22LR ammo. Only
Remington Core-Lokt is now $33 a box. shocked

Anyone selling Core-Lokt for a better price ?

Out of curiosity I checked Graf's. They only have .300 ammo from Federal- 150 & 180's- @ $32/box. Is this typical of CF ammo pricing in general?

I haven't bought a box of factory stuff in many years now, and with the costs going through the roof I'm glad I don't have to. (RCBS is your friend.)

About 2 years ago I was in a small local gun shop and needed a box of .300 Savage. The box had a little orange price sticker like you used to see in grocery stores --$14.99. I bought every box they had. They were $24 at the time in Cabelas. They just keep going up and up.

Have 3 boxes of 300SAV Corelokt I got from my granddad.
Seems to me the boxes are a basic green and red. They also
have the old type price tag. It's in the $5 or $6 range.

I see the same prices around here, $30+ for 250 or 300.

Not that I buy any. But I use Lee products. grin

Not that many years ago I was in a mom-and-pop hardware store (remember those?) and stumbled onto a pile of old Western Super-X ammo (like the box Hubert pictured in his thread) covered in dust, tucked way in the back of a bottom shelf crammed with plumbing supplies as I recall. The calibers were stuff like .30/40 Krag, .250-3000, .30/30, .30/06, etc. Around a dozen and a half boxes total, all with the price tags from when they were new- in the $4-$5 range. I took them all to the clerk and asked if they were the correct prices and he shrugged and said yes. I left with a big smile on my face.

Dang it, you guys just cost me some $$. Stopped by a small gun shop after work and saw three boxes of older Federal 150gr for about $16 each, so picked them up as well as an old Remington 303 Savage empty box.

The Peters box actually has Federal factory 150gr loads in it.

Now I have to go through all my singles and see if I have enough old Remington to fill up that box.

Calhoun - The old boxes of 300SAV ammo I got from Granddad
look like the Remington Kleanbore box in your picture.
When did Remington sell boxes like that ?
I always figured it to be in the 1950's

I was thinking this box was earlier since it says it was made especially for "Savage 1899" rifles on the back of it. I'd hope they'd have updated that to "Savage 99" by the 50's. But they didn't vary their box decor much over the years.

You might try Wisconsin Cartrige, arond $20 a box...I've had very good experince with the 150 gr.

Factory ammo is getting pricey, however I do reload and then again I scrounge older ammo when I can. Even hunt with the old ammo once in awhile. The Remington Hi Speed 87 grain Soft Points in middle of pic were put in a bullet seating die, nudged and shot across a chrony...2960fps...still potent.

Funny, I've had the same thing happen when I've told people 'it's a 300 Savage'

I'll get the 'Wow, that must really kick' response.

Was at a Walmart about 15 years ago and noticed they had Remeington 300 savage ammo in the green box. I said something to he guy behind the counter that I bet someone ordered the wrong stuff he said they should have ordered 300 Win Mag. I offer to buy it all for one price. ANYWAY long story short I bought around 10 boxes for around $6 a box. Still have several boxes left. Would like to run up on that deal again.

Have lost track of how many times I have been in a pawnshop
or a gunshop, spot a Savage 110 if not several and ask the
calibers. Almost every "300 Savage" turns out to be a 300
Win Mag.
