I gota possible sold on it.
Mad Dog, yes it comes with the tang sight. It's a Marbles S2 sight.
I'll take it, if your first offer doesn't work out.
Hey Jeff,
I have a funny feeling it will work out.....

The 99 H is sold. Thank you, Chip
One of you guys that's all over this would have been happy with the $400 99H 30/30 a local dealer...had.
What makes gun collecting so intriguing is that sometimes you find a bargain, sometimes you pay a fair price and everynow and then you knowingly pay too much for a rifle....just so you can own it.

Nope. S1.....S2's fit the Savage rimfires.
Well mad dog you maybe right, but I looked at it under a magnafing glass and it S2.
After I posted the above, I went out to shop and checked the sight. I was wrong, Mad dog was right, it's an S1. I should not have questioned Mad Dog's knowledge of tang sights.I hang my head in shame.
That is a very early 99-H...long forearm and standard weight rifle barrel. Late 1922 production.
Rick the letter states 1920.
Chip, It was a pleasure working with you. Many thanks.
Here is the letter on this 1899H.
Well, this certainly doesn't make sense to me. The picture of the rifle clearly shows a M99 with the characteristics unique to the 99H (e.g. no pads on the buttstock). Yet Callahan says it is a M1899H - in my book a very different gun.
If you look at the very early pricelists and catalogs for the 99's you'll see that they are still listed as 1899's.
Which means the 1920/1921 1899H according to the pricelist or catalog is actually what we call a 99H and NOT the original 1899H.
To prevent massive confusion everybody has always called the new models 99's.
Was there not a weight difference between the 1899H and the 99H? This one weighs a shade over 7 lbs, which should be a 99H weight, not the 1899H weight...is that about right?
Murray's has the 1899H featherweight at 6 lbs.
Nice! and a gun that was shiped to Hudson bay Co. kinda neat!
Hmmmm.... but the 1899H didn't transition into the 99H.....
Yer right on that. According to Murray the 1899 F SRC preceeded the 99 H. Unless Murray's wrong of course
Speaking of H's... I guess there are more variation than I thought

If anyone is looking, I have a 99 H in .303 that I am going to part with soon. It is not a museum piece nor a BB. Decent original shape with no modifications, cracks, holes, nada... All numero's match. I believe it is about a 1927 model. I am selling it as a package with a good amount of ammo. Just need to get pix and an idea of what I want for it. In the mean time, keep an eye out here as I usually post a heads up to my buds on this thread first before I do something stupid....
