Probably the first critter killed with the old rifle since WWII. Took a fat whitetail doe at 86 yards with it Saturday. reflex264

Nice resurrection! Was it a family gun?

Reflex, pretty interested in your sig line.

Found an early Savage 110 in 264 Win Mag and I'm a bit leary of it as they have a rep for being a barrel burner. I'm guessing by your sig line it might not be the case?

Sorry to get off topic.

Don't see many pre-war Es anywhere so pics would be cool.

Here's one in 250-3000. Not great but it's mine. It's been sanded and refinished on the wood. A 238XXX range gun.

What's the difference between a Pre war E, and a 1899A short rifle or saddle gun as it's sometimes called??? Got one from a member here that serial's in 238XXX also.

The prewar 99E had a much lighter barrel than the 1899A SR. The 1899A SR became the 99C and 99D with heavier barrels. The 1899H became the 99E and 99F with lighter barrels.

I like it. Still looking for mine. It's hard to find one in decent condition since most of them saw plenty of field time.

Stever and Randy

Thanks guys. The metal is original and doesn't look as good as the photo shows. Found it at an Ag Hall show in Allentown years ago. It was my second 99. A big step up from the 99A saddle gun in 308 that preceded it. It shoots very well but hasn't been shot in a while.

As soon as I can get the pics uploaded I will post them. They came out pretty good. I love the little rifle. Its a shame somebody doesn't build one that neat now. It handles like a dream and shoots great. reflex264
