Until I got my recent 99EG I'd forgotten how heavy these rifles were. Well over 9# with a 15oz scope.

Too heavy for my tastes right now.

I like 99's but I'm thinking the 99F would be a better choice for me.

What does a 99F weigh?
About 6.5 lbs. bare.
Weight can vary quite a bit due to differences in wood density.

My pre-mil 99F in .308 weights 6lb-9 oz with only iron sights and empty. Starts to bump up against 8 lbs with scope and mounts. Not really a lightweight by today's standards. IMO, Savage 99s are at their best, weight and balance wise, with receiver or tang peeps.
My 1955 "F" model with a Weaver 2.5X Aluminum tube scope with Weaver aluminum bases and Weaver rings weighs in at just a little over 7Lbs. Dream to carry in the Michigan woods or in the Mountains in Colorado.
Thanks guys.

It does look like a F would be the best choice for me.
what ever you do... don't run it at 308 pressures!!! smile smile :P
Practice by carrying something about twenty pounds so that when you have to pick up your 9lb Savage it will "feel" light by comparison smile
