what was the big deal about the gunshow? on the news this morning, but didn't hear the whole bit, something about being a Big crowd.
Ontario California!
I thought you meant Canada, hahaha.
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/l...he-West-Gun-Show-Firearms-185769562.htmlWith supply low and demand high, gun owners flocked to the Ontario Convention Center this weekend to stock up on ammunition at the states first gun show since a mass shooting at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school reignited the dormant gun control debate and increased sensitivity across the nation to firearms.
Some 6,000 people had filled the center by Saturday afternoon, and more than double that figure is expected to attend the event, which is open to the public and ends Sunday. The massive turnout is something even the Crossroads of the West Gun Show promoter didnt expect.
"Nationally manufacturers can't keep up demand for firearms or ammunition," said Bob Templeton, with Crossroads of the West Gun Shows. "There's no ammunition at stores, I'm understanding, anyway."
Hundreds of gun enthusiasts wrapped around the convention center to enter the gun show and inside the packed convention center, 720 tables display firearms, not including assault weapons similar to those used in the Newtown, Conn., massacre.
The ammunition tables became so congested on Saturday that promoters had to reroute the crowd.
Yup, the media just couldn't wait to jump on the first major gunshow in SoCal. No shootings or major drama by the attendees. The crowd was comparable to those back when Obama first got elected. But it did afford an opportunity for our beloved media to stoke gasoline on the embers...

Our very small local show this last weekend had ammunition selling and quite few people trying to sell AR style rifles. Dealers were capitalizing on AR's prices, not sure of sales. I was looking for FN 5.7 ammo that I used to pay $21/50 for. Ran $45-75/50 and the $45 boxes were sold in the few minutes it took me to circle the small room. Normally I hunker down at times like this, but I'm sitting up noticing things this time around.
Oh, to be a gun show promoter these days, with a big venue. Would make for a nice payday.
I went to a show this weekend. It was a packed house. Lots of bubbas walking around with their ARs or anything else that liberals would call "mean looking." Their prices were nuts and a lot of them were a little disappointed in the outcome. I was also at a Cabelas recently were the gun manager stated that 45 ARs came in one morning and were gone in an hour. Though, they didnt raise their prices to match the hype.

You think they could have shown, sold, and performed paperwork on 45 AR's in one hour??? Seems a bit over the top, I bet exaggerated just a wee bit.
Paperwork at Cabela's takes hours.. not minutes.
But the sales counter folks could have very easily sold 45 in an hour and moved the hapless victims... uhh.. buyers over to the gun counter to fill out 4473's and wait 2 hours for the background checks to be finished.
Seriously, Cabela's is THE slowest place to buy a gun at. Waits were 4 hours the weekend after Christmas locally, and it's all on paperwork. Last time I bought one it was a 75 minute wait, and that was with a C&R that didn't require any paperwork - but they fill it out regardless. Ugh. Don't know what they did to make it this bad, but it's ridiculous.
I bought a 99/410 cased set one day and had to wait 3 days to pick it up. Mostly because I had to cross over to NY and fill oout the papers, then the gun had to be brought to ny...ugh..this was before nics checks. I had to wait three days once to pick up a model 37 wichester, but that wan't so bad as waiiting for that set. F them black guns and all the associated crap, hype and hysteria.

nope, cabelas near here have several registers AT THE GUN COUNTER LOCATION and you can get out real quick
Lauren, if it wasn't black guns, it would be handguns. And if it wasn't handguns, it'd be semi-auto shotguns. Etc, etc..
Wonder when the last time a crime was committed with a Winchester Model 37? I mean BESIDES painting it camo or fitting a crappily fitted recoil pad, or leaving it in the barn for 6 months.

In my teenage years I went over my legal bag limit of rabbits with one a few times.

Let me give you a tip how this works, understand that these comments arnt guessing or hypathetical.
1996 a nut shot 37 people dead with a semi auto rifle at a place called port Arthur in the state of Tasmania. This lead to the ban on ALL semi auto rifle regardles od calibre. Australia is now safe
Moving right along, we had an asian student bring a small semi auto or revolver, can't recall to a college and shoot dead a couple of people. So we then had a ban on any pistol with a barrel length of less than 125mm I think it was. Keep in mind many semi autos came in at 123mm. Australia safe once again
Now we have a huge rise in drive by shootings, mainly outlaw bikie & middle eastern crime gangs. Sooooo the bush now is to ban semi autos all together.
One foot in the door is all these people need, I would never be so presumptious to comment on your politicle situation. You cannot make judgements from news reports. But learn from what happened here. There was a strong group who advocated that we not surrender the firearms. That everyone stand together. I believe if this had been done we would not have had a total ban. What are you going to? arrest hundreds of thousands of people, where do you put them. Any law has to be workable. Sorry got carried away
Johno
I understand John. I often get up on my soapbox and get carried away. The problem here is that so many are unwilling to learn from your experience. After all, "it can't happen here." Like hell it can't.
they say history repeats itself, how many people in this country even know what happened to the WW1 vets that went to washington to protest (non violent) about getting the back pay that was promised. many were shot and beaten.

"But they will never take my gun!"
Great post, thanks.

I don't think you will head down the same path as we did. You have a strong organization in the NRA, its opposite number over here is called SSAA ( Sporting Shooters Associat of Australia )
There is not enough viagra on the planet to harden this group up, nough said
I wish you well
Johno
There is talk of Obama using Executive Order, to bypass everyone. Thoughts?

The liberals and media are doing everything they can to taint the public's opinion of the NRA. By them inviting the NRA to talk about these schemes they're cooking up, the liberals will then go ahead and do whatever they had planned to, then claim the NRA was part of the process, laying blame back on the NRA to create dissension in the ranks of the NRA. I wish the NRA would tell the Black House to... Travis, where are you?
