Having recently acquired a 99 Savage in .250, I am at a loss for brass. I've got "some" but need more for load development and shootin'. Seems .250 brass is just not available; not new, not used, not factory loaded, etc. But, apparently, 22-250 Rem. brass is fairly easy to come by. I've heard that converting 22-250 brass back to the parent cartridge (.250 Savage) is easy to do. Do any of my Brothers have some actual experience in this endeavor? Is it as easy as running a .257 cal. expander through the 22-250 case? This MUST be a tired old subject but I am new to it (and to the Campfire). Thanks in advance for any helpful advice......

I bought some at Cabelas in Green Bay 2 weeks ago. It's available.

Cabela's was not even on my radar for reloading components. I'd already contacted my usual sources, everyone was out of stock, I got on all the "notify" lists and been waiting.....

Now, for future reference, how 'bout reforming 22-250 brass back to .250 Savage; has anybody tried that?

Yes, run it through your 250 die, assuming it has a tapered expander, which most do.

Shoot a little One Shot in the neck and do it.

if you have a 243 or 6mm take the expander out and install in your 250 die. this eases the expansion stress and will help avoid split necks. then steep up to the 257 expander. saves brass. good luck. if you have problems with that pm me and I will send you some brass as I have more than I need.

You can form them out of .300 brass too. May probably need to turn or ream the necks on them afterward though. Heck, for that matter an industrious fellow could make them out of .308s or even .30/06's if one were a glutton for punishment. Mind the internal case capacities if that trick is attempted.

I recently found a huge stash of .250 Norma brass in my 'junk collection', left over from the last .250 I owned. Guess I need to round up another rifle to use that brass in!

Chestnut Ridge supply, (chestnutridge.com) has 250 Savage brass for future reference

I like nickel brass so took 60 pieces of 22/250 Winchester range
brass in nickel and necked them up to 250 savage. No neck splitting and shoots like factory W-W brass.

I used Hornady white cream case lube to lube the necks.
