We have a volunteer (Southern_WI_Savage)in Sauk City, WI willing to host the 2014 Savage Fest. Tentative date would be Sept 5-6 or Sept 12-13. There was an option of having it at a Gun Club but the Gun Club would only allow for around 35 ea. 6 ft. tables and we didnt want to limit table space. The Rec Center is big enough to handle all the table we should need. It also has a kitchen so we can eat there if we wish to bring in or cook our own food. There appears to be plenty of Motels in the area, as well. More on that later.

What I need from the Forum members is feedback as to which date (or another) so we can reserve the building, ASAP. Check your calendar, ask your wife and post your comments please.

Also, advise as to how sure you are at this time (I know things will happen in the next eight months that might require you to make changesthat is why you check with the wife before replying ) that you will be coming and how many tables you might want.

MAP Rec Center address is 730 Monroe Street, Sauk City, WI

I'll start this off...

Yes, I will be there. Either date works. Will need two or three tables.

Its 10hrs and 650miles but either weekend is fine. I would love to come and meet some of the campfire.

The 5th and 6th would be a little better for us but can make either weekend. David
Posted By: Savageupnorth Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/11/14
Put both weekends on calendar. Either will do for me. I will be there. 2 tables (at this time).
Posted By: Phil99 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/11/14
I'll try to make it. Probably the first weekend would be best for me. I would want two tables.

Either of those weekends in September should work fine for me, though with the 1st already being a holiday it might be easier to get away from work on the 11th. Either that or I could take the whole week off and go fishing in Wisconsin. grin

Probably want 2 tables.
Posted By: Rick99 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/11/14
Ralph said either date works for him and he will take 4 tables.

Lightfoot might put that to a challenge if he were to attend.

Where else will you find bear brats and a building full of Savage items? should be worth the trip. grin

Will be great to meet another long time member!
Posted By: Lightfoot Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/11/14
No distance award in 2012 but I won 1 of the 2 guns that were put up for drawing so that's even better.

I won't be needing any tables but plan to be there.

Maybe this year I'll make it. If I can get to Minnesota I'll hitch hike the rest of the way with Grogel. (Picture that- two bums staggering along the road under the weight of Savage rifles, tongues hanging out and thumbs unlimbered. If any of y'all zoom past in a cloud of dust, at least toss us a couple cold beers!)
Posted By: cmhjohn Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/11/14
I'll be there. Either weekend is ok. Number of tables depends on what folks would like to see......post or pm me what you would like me to bring and if I have it, I will try to make it happen. (except for the Lewis Machine Gun, unable to transport across state lines). Guessing 4 or 5 tables.

Always enjoy the photos Calhoun takes. That'll have to do.

It looks good for either week end for me. I probably will need 3 tables, certainly two. Of course they will be mainly filled with 22 pumps and since I have shown early ones at the last fests I was thinking of doing 29, 29-A & 29-B's this time.
I hope everyone on the Savage Collector forum can participate in this event. It will be a good time.
In addition to meeting one another there is plenty to see and do in this area that I call home.
Please consider attending.
I would like to thank Rick99 for working with me and spear heading the effort on the forum.
Any questions or special needs, just ask.

Thanks for hosting a savagefest, Rick!

My GF and I spend 3 or 4 days camping and bicycling in Elroy about an hour NW of you every year. Are there any camping facilities with showers around Sauk City?
Posted By: wyo1895 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/12/14
Will need four tables. My book is making progress again and I could use lots of photos for it so bring out the good stuff. David
One of my other passions in life is cycling. Camping? Google knows all. Must be something in my neighborhood even if it's my place. We'll talk.

Guys, put my name in the hat to be there. The second weekend would be better for me. Being in maintenance I get to work all of the holidays for major repair. No tables, just further education and a chance to meet all.
Posted By: Rick99 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/13/14
Yes, the Sept 12-13 date seems to be working best. We will tie the date down before long so we can reserve the building.

Yea, it's always nice to put a face with a name even if most are pretty ugly. grin

I think I might still owe you a bottle of rum!

I won't be able to make a commitment until we get a little closer but am planning on going.

Tons. Baraboo is 20 minute north of Sauk City and the Wisconsin Dells are 40 minutes north of Sauk City. There's plenty of campgrounds that would fit your bill.

Can this thread be stickied?

I might like to come take a look at the wares all 'ya all have. Either weekend would work for me. No table, just myself, and maybe my dad.
Posted By: savage24 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 01/15/14
Thanks Rups63. We have looked a little online around Sauk City. We will definately look at Baraboo and Devil's Lake. I did some scuba diving in Devil's Lake about 28 years ago and Sharon reminded me the other night that we visited Sauk City 3 or 4 years ago when we spent the day sight seeing instead of bicycling in the rain.

The plans are moving forward. It appears that the Sept 12-13 date is the one we are going with. I hope that is not a problem for anyone.

Mark you calendar. More to info to come as available.

Got word from John Allen that he will be coming. Probably four tables.

Will be a great time, as always. smile Spread the word to others that have a Savage interest but are not on the Forum.

Never been to one of the Savage Fests. Besides the camaraderie,
BS sessions, and viewing the best of the best Savages what else happens? What I mean is, are there Savage rifles, Savage parts, Savage memorabilia, etc. for sale? Thanks
Posted By: Calhoun Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 02/05/14
It's a private collector show, most stuff is not for sale but rather display. If two guys work something out between themselves then that's fine.

Start running a commercial operation and you get into licensing/insurance/legal issues.

Calhoun,I'm glad to hear that not EVERYTHING is for sale. The rifles in my display are NOT for sale. I'm coming to meet people and learn more about Savages not for some glorified flea market. David
Calhoun's comments confirmed.

I have the Community Center booked as a private show (no buy & sell) for Sept.12, 13, 14 in Sauk City, WI.

It is a large gym with ample floor space/tables and a side kitchen. Many have already replied regarding attending, number of tables requested and to pitch in in different ways to make this event fun and a success. The more the merrier.

The only place more centrally located in the continental U.S. is FedEx in Memphis.
Sauk City is not a bad drive from anywhere.

We plan to have a professional photography table for our use. (pic is example)
The purpose is provide top quality photos for whatever purpose you may have. Provide your own camera/photographer.
This does not preclude members/guests from strolling & photo'ing on your own (Calhoun).
Hopefully members will get out the good stuff and share some photos upon request/permission.

Nice idea! Lighting is hard to control when you are trying to get those detailed shots.

Mark your calendar, Sept 12-13. We can't get into the building till around 3 pm on Friday but will have a gathering place close by for those that come earlier in the day. I don't think we will have any problems passing the time...might even talk about Savage Levers. grin

The building will be ours on Sunday morning till around 10AM for those that don't want to load up Saturday night.

There, fixed it for you. The most important date is the opening day of gun season. wink grin

You tried. I give you credit but no saddly you are mistaken. Gun season..... pffffft. Its ok and all but it takes a 2n fiddle to bowhunting.

My wife and I will tentatively attending. Lots of arrangements to make, can't bring any guns with us as we will be flying in. If someone from the Madison area will be kind enough to help us find our former school mate who graduated from West? high school in Madison in 1969 - 70 or 71 and subsequently attended the University of Hawaii for a year or two. She is Carol Lathrop White and is or was a music teacher along with her husband Nick. I thot her dad was a lawyer in Madison but no luck there - her dad would be his 90's by now. Anyway we hope to attend - all jet lagged out from 18 hours of traveling. Sauk City sounds like Kaunakakai on Molokai Island where we live - small, everyone knows everyone else, etc. Looking forward to meeting everyone, Mel Chung
Posted By: Skidrow Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 04/07/14
The numbers tell the story. You lose. Way more folks think that they can wipe the cobwebs off the rifle that sees maybe nine days carrying use a year and the same box with 17 cartridges left that they bought 18 years ago to go gun hunting than there are willing to be self-disciplined enough to learn how to shoot a bow accurately. Show up for the free venison burger feed in Tomahawk the day before gun season opens and canvas the crowd to see how many are gun hunters vs. bow hunters. While bow hunting is an honorable endeavor and your season is much longer than Gun Season Gun Season rules. Been there, done that. Been Gun Season hunting in Wisconsin since 1968. Because I'm lazy. I simply won't take the time to learn how to shoot a bow accurately. But I do salute you for taking the time to master the bow and for your enthusiasm and support for your chosen way of hunting. But simply because you enjoy shooting a bow rather than a rifle doesn't mean there are more bow hunters than gun shooters. Sorry, the numbers are there for you to see. Have a nice day. grin

??? confused You remain confused. I cant find where I said there are more bowhunters than gun hunters. My point was that I cant attend savage fest as I will be busy with the most important weekend in WI (re the archery deer season opener). While I dont care if I ever kill another deer with a firearm, I still join the hunting party at deer camp but it is only one of many many many deer camps we enjoy each fall so after already hunting deer every weekend for a couple months by the time the orange pumpkin season comes around Im less than excited. I started out gun deer hunting with a Savage model 170 (now my son uses it) Now I (and my oldest son) use Savage model 110E 30-06. I just cant get worked up about gun deer season after killing about 107 deer over my lifetime but bowhunting, now thats where its at. grin

Just booked Rory and myself at the Cedarberry Inn Sauk City, Sept 12 & 13. This Motel is just down the road from the Fest. Many more selections down the road towards Middleton/Madison via HWY 12.

"Officially" the facility is reserved;
Friday 4pm-11pm - setup/show
Saturday 8am-11pm - show/tear down optional
Sunday 8am-10am - teardown/clean up
comments;
1) Due to the fact that the facility is a school gym and school is in session at that time the 4pm start was necessary. However, I'm pretty sure we can gain access earlier in the day and I will monitor and follow up with all as the time comes.
2) Food at Fest will be a combination of catered and pot luck/wild game for Friday nite, Saturday lunch & dinner. TBD.
3) I'll arrange a meeting place for pre-Fest Friday before we head over to the Community Center.
4) I'll post all the general Fest related info here and feel free to PM me with any related questions.
5) For any that will arrive in town early, PM me and we'll have a soda on the patio. There is plenty to see and do in the area if time permits.

Hi All,
Rick just reminded me of the Fest this year and as it may I just might also be able to go.
I will be in Chicago at the IMTS show on Thursday and was planning to visit Tormach in Waunakee on Friday. I guess I could just stay over another night and see you fine folks on Saturday. Never miss an opportunity to look at some nice long arms.

By the way if you are there on Friday stop by Tormach, you can also visit there website. These are the CNC mills I use in my company making camera mounting plates. Sweet machines with the worlds absolute best customer service and support department on earth...hands down!

That's too bad John won't be there. I was hoping he'd bring his 99DE's. He and I have talked about the variations in engraving on them. If anyone can bring a 99PE with the Eastern deciduous engraving I'd like to include photos of it in my book. David

We can setup as many as we like on Friday and add if necessary.
An annual Spring Show here covers the entire gym floor so space/tables is not an issue.

A fall Fest and pig hunt someday would be attractive to more than a few of us, I think. Just need somebody to host it. grin

Brad, do your best to show up even if you can't bring anything. Having folks show up and ask questions ends up starting some awesome discussions where I learn things I never would have thought to ask about. The more the merrier!

The Campfire Hog Hunt in March is usually a great time with good eats, great guys and tolerable hunting. I think one or two 99's have attended, as well. Tennessee is fairly central, too smile
Update: We were able to increase Savage Fest hours Friday to 12-noon to 11pm. That should allow time for setup and maximize Friday night. Then, it is 8am to 11pm Saturday! And, 8-10am Sunday for tear down/clean up.

I'll plan to host a mixer/dinner social event Thursday evening for early arrivals. PM me and we'll line it up.

I think a few cases of water/soda would be enough. I'll provide some coolers with ice. There will also be coffee, snacks and more. We ain't gonna go hungry.
Door prizes add to fun too.
Thanks for pitching in!
Rick
Rick: is there a location for the get together yet? I may be able to pass by Costco in Midland? on the way over - let me know about any last minute needs. Mel
Rick, What's the weather likely to be for Savage Fest, cool or warm or who knows? David

40's-60's for lows, 60's-80's for highs. Pretty mild turning to fall weather here. Bring a jacket and a long sleeve otherwise dress light.
Thanks for the info. David
Looks like I won't be attending. I received a wedding invitation today from a friend of mine.
Can I be in two places at once?
That is totally unacceptable! They will proably be divorced in 2 years anyway. Savage Fest is forever crazy

Who in the hell will I stay up and drink beer and tell lies with now cry grin
grin
Wedding only take a few hours...you can still do the Fest.
Yep, hopefully you aren't a groomsman or best man and can definitely manage the Fest on Friday at worst! Be a bummer if you can't make it.
I'll see what I can squeeze in.
Have you asked them to reconsider the date of the wedding?

Has there ever been a wedding at Savage Fest?
Yes, 2007 in New York.
Well wonders never cease.

A belated congrats to the happy couple.
How was the rifle salute?
Making arrangements. I think I'll be there Friday evening and Saturday morning. I might need a table.
Trying to bring my brother, Dan, for an education.

Being a designated driver doesn't take too much education. grin
Hey, last fest I was GOOD! It's that Drew character that's a bad influence! And that was 4 years ago!

About a month to go and things are shaping up nicely.

Quite a few have already indicated attendance with tables and quite a few more have indicated attendance to enjoy Savage Fest.

The rough itinerary at the moment is:
Thursday evening social event for early arrivals.
Friday setup begins at noon and show thereafter. We'll meet for lunch prior and dinner on site.
Saturday Savage Fest all day!!! Lunch & dinner on site.
Sunday morning clean up.

PM me for Thursday & Friday info. Or any other info or questions.

The circles represent ~10 or 20 hr. drive to Wisconsin. Beyond that, you're probably flying. Those coming know this. Those sitting on the fence,.. toss your favorite rifle(s) in the back seat and go for a drive. Bring your wife or tell her you'll be home in a couple three days.
We have about 20 states represented so far...

I vaguely recall an empty bottle of rum... was a fun night!!
Originally I had every intention of making it this year, but the old hip ratcheted up the pain a couple notches which finally sent me to the orthopod for relief. Even though surgery is scheduled for after the fest, I couldn't endure an 18 hour drive, or even a flying/driving mix. I'll be channeling my presence through Ye Great Swami Grogel (Deluxe). whistle

It's a shame too, because I have a couple bottles of single malt that have labels that say "Only to be drank after hours at a Savage Fest". smile I wonder how that stuff will mix with the pain killers I know to be in my future? (Kidding!)
Well that's too bad, but a chronic pain sorta dictates things. Good luck and get well. Savage Fest Annapolis '16?? A nominee anyway?
I will let Grogel speak for himself, but, the staff at Savage Fest will be completely supportive.

p.s.Send the bottles of single malt to Grogel in advance of 'Fest.

For those who will have some extra time, and those bringing family members that may not be as interested in just Savage's as they are and maybe looking for other activities, Prairie du Sac is in a very nice area of Wisconsin with many points of interest nearby. This area is where glaciated parts of the state which are to the north & east end and change to much rougher terrain south & west. Here are some quick notes on some places within about an hour or less drive -

There was already mention of Devils Lake State Park 20 minutes. Devil's lake was created by a river and is one of very few natural lakes in areas of the state that were not covered by glaciers.

Wisconsin Dells, 40 minutes, Water Park Capitol of the World! - a great tourist trap

Circus World Museum in Baraboo , 22 minutes.

The Mid-Continent Railway Museum is about 20 minutes away. They are restoring three Steam Engines and are currently pulling all trains with diesel engines, for years all trains were pulled by steam power. Their engine 1385, a 4-6-0, was used to pull groupings of circus wagons from the Circus World Museum on several occasions in the past.

House on the Rock , near Spring Green, 40 minutes.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen , near Spring Green, 35 minutes.

An interesting note about Spring Green, WI is who one former resident once associated with the Taliesen Fellowship was - ??? , she returned to her country of origin in the 1980's but later came back to the area and lived the last years of her life a little farther south near Richland Center, WI.

Wollersheim Winery , 10 minutes.

Cave of the Mounds , 40 minutes.

Ho-Chunk Casino , 25 minutes

Downtown Madison , 35 Minutes UW Wisconsin and the Madison chain of lakes.

For the Muskie enthusiasts and other fishing- it is not in a prime Wisconsin Muskie area, but the last dam on the Wisconsin River before it meets the Mississippi is just north of town and it's sometimes great Walleye fishing below the dam (also might snag a paddle fish or hook into a Flathead Catfish and I expect the Asian flying carp to show up if they arent there already). The dam forms Lake Wisconsin , famous for walleye fishing but considered a sleeper Muskie lake by some.

The next dam is at Wisconsin Dells with some really good smallmouth bass and Walleye fishing below the dam and great scenery above and below.

The Madison chain of lakes have Muskies Mendota , Monona , Waubesa and Kegonsa that are in a chain on the Yahara river and a smaller lake, Wingra , that drains into Monona but is separated by a small dam.

Wingra is the smallest but I believe it was managed as a Muskie lake at one time. when the water is high enough at the right time of year Muskies from Monona can enter Muskies at low water . The Henry Vilas Zoo is on the north bank of Lake Wingra.

Monona and Waubesa are connected by a navigable channel of the Yahara River and are considered the best Muskie lakes. Its about 35 minutes to a boat launch on Lake Monona. There are small dams below Mendota and Waubesa. There are small boat locks on the dams but I do not know if they are operational anymore or not.

Mendota is by far the largest but is not considered a good Muskie lake. Its known more for Walleyes and panfish. The Mendota Mental Health Institute is on the North shore near Governors Island, it is were Ed Gein spent the last years of his life. I believe they still will not allow the showing of 'Pysco', or other films that may have even in some small way been based on his story, to the 'residents'.

On a similar note its also 40 minutes to Portage, WI and the Columbia Correctional Institution where Jeffery Dahmer was imprisoned and later killed.

It is strongly suggested not to pick up hitch hikers wearing orange jump suits near Lake Mendota or near Portage.
Another nearby spot worth visiting is Aldo Leopold's shack (the land he writes about in "Sand County Almanac") near Baraboo. I was there a couple years ago and it's well worth a trip.

As most of you know, Wisconsin is known as the dairy state. I'm a former farm boy myself. There is no shortage of 5-star cheese stores in our area and I have attached a map, the shaded red areas are where top quality cheese can be found.
I'll be bringing a cheese platter to Savage Fest. Any of you have the courage to try aged brick or limburger? Ping me if you have a favorite cheese and I'll try to locate some.

Sold out! thanks.
Too bad about Ralph. He brings a lot of personality.
Not to mention, some interesting stuff!
Bummer! Missed him at Tulsa this year, now he won't be at the Fest. Great guy, lots of heart and lots of knowledge.
OK boys,
I've lurked here long enough. Just got the time off work for Sept. 12-13, so count me in! Time for me to get more educated.

At the last midwest fest there were several stock sets available for purchase. Is anyone bringing such a thing?

BRIAN
AS Far as WOOD? Or CASED SETS-as Far as Guns.
My photographer and I will be shooting photos of rifles to be included in the Savage 99 book at Savage Fest. We'll credit the owner and use the serial number in the book with the owner's permission.
The guns we need are:
1) 1895 Half octagon. Rick if you can bring your rifle we need to reshoot it.
2) Caliber .30 marking on an early 30-30. These markings are usually faint and the photos we have so far aren't book quality.
3) Barrel address Style 4A per Murray's book.
4) Barrel address Style 5 per Murray's book.
5) Early 99DL with 24" barrel and hand checkering.
6) Early (1961?) uncheckered 99E with stained fruitwood stock.
7) 1960's Savage scope with Savage mounts and rings mounted on a rifle, preferably a 99E/S.
8) Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation commemorative rifle.
9) We can also use any peculiar variations.
My second book will be on engraved 1895's, 1899's and 99's. This book will also include special checkering, carved stocks, etc. If we have time we'll photograph any of this that is available.
Ron Coburn has sent me some emails to read to you guys at SF. He won't be able to attend but is interested in attending a future Savage Fest. He's sending photos of his Savages for us to display at SF this year.
I'm looking forward to meeting you guys in person. David
The photography crew is gonna be a busy group.
Yes, I'm bringing the 1895 half oct.
As previously mentioned I will have a portable photo setup and provide toe tags to ID rifle/owners during the process.
The photo area layout can be something like this...

[Linked Image]
I can do #2 (.30 Sav) and #8 (Elk Foundation w/case). If anyone was planning to bring one for a display let me know and I'll leave mine at home.
Steve, wood!
I think Ralph brought wood in 2012 but has likely sold most of it since. (no ribald comments, please) grin
I got detail photos of John Wright's RMEF but failed to get an overall photo.
I will bring #5 and #7. I can also bring the RMEF for an overall photo if that will save you time. Thought you shot the #7 E/S at the farm. It has special order factory wood w/pg as well as Savage scope rings etc. Is that what you are looking for? SN is 1150338.
John, bring the RMEF and that way all the photos will be of the same rifle. I did shoot the E/S at the farm but I don't want to confuse novice collectors with things like the special order factory wood. We don't want those new guys running around looking for 99E's like yours. We don't want to disappoint and discourage them until they're really hooked. I did take closeups of the scope mounts but need some showing the markings on the scope. If I live long enough to do Book Three it'll have things like that E with special wood in it. Book Two will contain excruciating details of engraved 99's. David
I'll leave the REMF at home. Do you need photos of the case?
David, not sure I can help you, but I recently bought a rifle from Don/Loggah's brother Dick that has Savage scope and rings. It's a 99F with PE? wood. PM if I can contribute.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]
Thanks Fireball. I saw that rifle when I was at Dick's house. I have the scope what I need is one mounted with the Savage marked mounts. They seem to be fairly rare. David
Is there one among us who could possibly take some video at Savage Fest? Could be posted with the pics. (on Rory's web site (probably shoulda asked first blush ))

At some point on Saturday we'll have a short presentation where I welcome all, our moderator Rick99 says a few words, David has a message from Ron Coburn, ect. Open to suggestions.

Plus just some nice video of our members and our hobby, sickness, addiction, passion...

Making a DVD is a little far fetched, but, let's have some fun. smile

Thoughts?
Which Savage marked rings do you need? The older ones that fit the Lyman bases or the newer ones that fit the Weaver bases? I have plenty of both.
George, are you saying Savage used Weaver bases and rings that had the Savage brand stamped on them?

I believe he is looking for the Lyman trulock style with Savage markings on them.
Yup. The earlier ones were Lyman Trulock copies and the later ones were Weaver compatible. Got a small drawer full of each. The Lyman compatible rings are pretty much round while the Weaver compatible ones are more angular getting kinda pointy on the sides. Not saying that they were actual Weavers. They do fit Weaver blocks. In any event, I have both. Maddog and I had this discussion some time back. Good thing for me that I still have two complete sets of the Lyman knockoffs in the original Savage packaging but those are keepers. grin
Skidrow. I'd like to include both in the book. Do you have any that are mounted on a rifle with a Savage scope? I'll photograph them either way but prefer mounted. I'm sending you a PM also. Thanks, David
David,

Sadly it doesn't look like I'll be able to make the fest this year and given the distance apart we are that makes a photo op improbable. Given other circumstances I've got a NIB Savage 2.5 scope that would look quite nice wearing a pair of the Lyman knock off Savage rings mounted on my not pristine but considerably above "gray rat" postwar 99R. Alas....

Received your PM and responded.

Take care,
George
George, sorry to hear you won't be able to make it.
Sorry to have to remove you from the list. Will miss seeing you old salty dog.

You guys have a GREAT time! Wish I could be there with you all.
Brian, Rick and Stever,

Thanks for the kind words. Been out of work since Jan of '13 and the few job offers I got were for half the money, no benefits and the same crappy hours. Decided to collect SS this past June and just now getting my finances back in order. Believe me, if there was any way I could make it I would. Looks to maybe be the best Fest ever with a lot of new blood. Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug. grin Hope y'all have a great Fest.
Yes about the same with me too, George, been out of a reg. job since may of 012,Health issues some low paying pt jobs, but looks like i will get my S.S. in Nov. hope all have a great time!
Been too long since we've seen each other John. Problem is that you're down in the mitten and I visit the UP. Ya sure ya betcha! Hoping we can both make the next Fest. As to lack of gainful employment and collecting SS believe me I feel your pain. wink grin
Savage Fest is coming up fast. Everything is set.
Related information has previously been posted, even if a little spread out.
If any questions remain, places, address, phone #, who, what,..
PM me and I'll supply it.

I have had great support from you guys here on the forum and especially those who have attended previous Fests. Thank you!

Rick
I hope you guys all have a great time, a bit to far away for a weekend drive!!

Have a GREAT time. Wish I could be there, but travel money prevents that. Made it to Anticosti this year by the skin on our teeth. Looking forward to the pictures.

I'll post some photos of the Fest, Steve, and I hope you'll post some of your Anticosti hunt.

I've got a cardiologist appointment this morning, and I'm headed for the Fest as soon as it's over. Should be there by 5:00 or 6: 00 if I can make my way around Chicago OK.

Thanks, Rod. Have a great time.
It's a wrap. Savage Fest 2014 is in the books.
It has been an absolute pleasure to host the event.
All I did was make some calls and arrangements,YOU did the rest.
Thanks to everyone here on the forum and especially those who offered advice, words of encouragement, support and participation.
I thank you.
Rick

Thank YOU Rick. You did an outstanding job: great facility, fine food, and as always lots of good company and nice Savages.

I'll try to get some photos posted tomorrow. Got to go put guns away, some old, some new.

As with everyone else, I had a great time again also. 3rd Fest and they get better each time. Learn a bunch every time. And also found another gun (combination model and caliber) that I need... Well, that's actually not that hard to do!!! Now who writes the book on Savage Arms history with all the trinkets and non-gun items Savage made?
A fun weekend with good folks!

Feeling like such a left coaster right now. Like the kid that gets picked last in dodgeball. frown

Great time, with lots of good folks. Serious thanks to our host, Southern_WI_Savage for hosting us and providing us with food, early morning coffee, great place to set up and visit, and opportunity to get together!

Also big thanks to Bruce for wonderful brats and smoked fish, cmhjohn for great venison sausage, Rick99 for manning the entrance table/pre-registering folks and being willing to sacrifice valuable Savage research time to intercept unknown folks, melchung for some awesome teriyaki chicken, gnoahh/southern_wi_savage/stever/others for great door prizes (my apologies for not knowing who all donated what), and of course thanks to Gary for providing overnight security and forgoing a bed!

And of course a huge thanks to everybody who brought stuff to display, especially David who dragged his entire display 1300 miles!

I'm leaving out things to thank folks for that I should be including, but it's late and my mind is fried. So for whoever I forgot to mention...

Thank You!!!

Well stated Rory. The only thing I can think of is a big Thank You to the ladies that helped with the food and cleanup.

Most of it has been said so I'll just give the above a big ditto!!

Let's make 2016 bigger and get some of the 'back east' folks to the trough.

Sittin' in the Mpls. airport waitin' to go home. More good Savage memories on board!!

Made it home from SF about one AM. Had a great time, met great people and got almost all the photos needed to finish the book. Still need photos of style 4A and style 5 barrel addresses per Murray's book. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David
I checked and do not have a 4A or 5 barrel address.

Glad you enjoyed Savage Fest and looking forward to your book.

Posted By: Rick99 Re: SAVAGE FEST 2014 !!! - 09/20/14
Thanks for looking, Don. I thought you might have one or the other but was not sure about the photo part.

I knew where a 4A was but it has gone down the road. frown FYI... this is the leftover Model 20, 24" lightweight, .250-3000 barrel with the small integral front sight and might be found on Model E,F or G.

Rick,

Even tho that 99 E 4A went down the road, I still had some pictures including the roll mark. I sent them on to David today.

Just got back home last night -I spent a week with an old Vietnam war buddy in Alabama before flying home. I enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing and handling all those guns that I had only seen in pictures before. the stevens 425 lever action is amazing!
I enjoyed making the Molokai style Huli huli chicken. what to make for the next savage fest? I got two years to figure it out... Mel Chung
