Replaced wood, 24", straight lever. Any chance it's a legit 300 at that ser. #?

Always a chance that the gun was held and shipped late.

But it's a slim chance.

"Hey lookit boss. There's an old dusty receiver down in the bottom of this bin." Grab it, kid, and put it into the assembly line."

A letter would tell the tale.

Sellers additional photos shows style 8 barrel address, ramp front sight. According to Murrays style 8 used between ser. # 332,000-448,000, 1930-1946. Receiver much earlier. Anybody have an approx. year on receiver based on #?

Probably 1917, but maybe up through 1919. The WWI work stoppage looks to have made that serial number range odd.

Definitely prior to the 300 Savage, and seriously prior to having a ramp front sight.

Franken99.

Is there a Savage 99 stamp on the receiver ring? If so it is probably Savage assembly or rework. Other than that you will have to letter it to see produced/shipped.

I know there is a 99-H, 1870xx that lettered as 1932. Seen several other early receivers used at much later dates.

That low numbered action probably is not heat treaded for .300 use. If it had been rebarreled at the factory I think it would have had the Savage Model 99 stamp added to the receiver ring and heat treated. Just my $0.02.

Thin tapered barrel E should have an integral front sight.

I think it could have been a re barreled H with new wood.

But WTF knows. Another mystery to add to the long list. Letter would be intersting. Might tell a lot...

Might not...

I've been looking high and low. No Savage 99's in 7STW for sale at the moment. There must be a 6" action 99 available for a custom??? laugh

Shooting Times Westerner IIRC. The links above should tell. Was a semi-popular wildcat back in the day and may or may have not been legitimized by some manufacturer or another. Can't remember just now.
