I finally doubled my count of 99's <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I picked up a very nice cond 99C in .308. Came with a widefield 3x9 scope and was <$500. I'm happy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> .... Serial number is d958XXX. From what I can tell, the savage99.com site doesn't list years of manufacture for the newer ones...

Maybe one of you folks would be able to tell me a year?

Nope, no doug involved. I bought it locally. Did you know of a .308C with a widefield in these parts? Do you happen to know who made "widefields" ... the only marking on the scope is a sticker that says "3x9x40" the sticker might've said more, but if so it's rubbed off.

Pretty sure it's a Redfield, I've got a Redfield Widefield down at ABO right now getting the rear lens replaced. It's going to be topping a 99C in 22-250 as soon as it gets back.

No, I didn't know of one your way but I did know of two minty 99C's in 308 for $500 each from a buddy of mine, just wondered if maybe you found him at Canadian Gunnutz or something.

no, I just found gunnutz last week (thanks to another poster).. I had started watching their classifieds, but in the mean time this one came up locally.
