What leather sling would be correct for a 99 I have a narrow military style but the hooks will not clear thru the sling swivels.

Pry the hooks open a little so they can be weaseled through the swivel loops.

Depends on which 99.. the oldest 1899's came with sling eyes rather than studs, then later you have the 1930 99RS's with studs and their own slings, then in the 50's you have the 99R's with sling eyes again, then some of the post 1960 stuff had studs.

The only "correct" sling for a 99 would be the 99RS which came with a sling. Anything else would be an aftermarket slings, so something that's vintage to it would be proper.

As nice as they rest in the hand, I'd leave the sling home.

Tried that the rivets are the problem the swivel is just not thin enough to go. I don't want to bugger it up trying to force it thru. I was thinking there might be a sling that avoids the problem.

I like the 1907 Military sling on mil surplus rifles (1903, 03A3, M1 Garand and 1917) and on some sporting bolt guns. But on the Savage 99 I think the "quick change sling" like Boyt used to make works and looks the best. But if you want to exercise the "art of the sling" then there is no substitute for a properly fitted 1907. I have a 1920/26 with the sling eyes that will probably get a "quick change" sling one of these days.
These are not "correct", for the 1899/99's but very "period" looking.

I bought 3 of these, and love 'em..
