Lightfoot gave me some solid suggestion...but does anyone have a year narrowed down to when the rear sight on the 1950's vintage 99F changed from the longer sight with ramped elevator to the flip down buckhorn?

Thanks in advance...
The only thing I've seen is there was a changeover for all models in 1959. If you have a 1957 gun it would have been the low profile semi buckhorn - not a fold down.
Thanks Mike!
I'm trusting to memory when I say it is a '57 LBC but my Dad's 99F has the flip down sight. He bought it used in '60 so it could have been swapped by the previous owner. There was no scope on it when he bought it as far as I know.

FWIW,

Dale
I'm with Lightfoot... 1959, maybe late 1958.
I have Doug Murray's book, but would anyone have a detailed picture of the rear sight for a '57 99F? Thanks folks...in advance.
Well.... this was on mine. Probably didn't come that way from the factory tho.

Nice Rory! A blank on the business end of the pipe...creative!
The F eventually had what I call the low profile sight for scope clearance. I believe this evolved into the folding sight.

The third pic is the earlier semi buckhorn.

Thanks MIKE, again!
Fig. 6-22, p.86, shows the earlier non-folding 99F sight and Fig. 7-2, p. 92, shows the folding sight in my book "A Collector's Guide to the Savage 99 Rifle...". David
Thanks David. I have seen some attempts to turn those F sights into counterfeit T sights. The ebay seller known as Hartsel got stuck with one - expensive lesson.
Both front and rear "T" sights are shown in Fig. 6-14, p. 81. I saw a 99T for sale once with a modified semi-buckhorn. They had milled the groove for the white line but it still had the notch. David
