savage should have chambered the 99 in a 277-08 .. that would have been a nice caliber

It would have been way cool.

But with no factory load about 17 people would have bought it. And it would have been obsolete before the rifles even got delivered and would have been a financial blunder/disaster for the company.

I suspect those 17 people bought 284's or 308's instead. grin

+200%! my 99x270 Redding gets 2950fps with 140g spire points, with no signs of excess pressure. I'd build another one in a heart beat, but I like having the only one on the block!

Plab, I have 270-308 on on a Remington 700, that's collecting dust here, if you're interested in trying the caliber.

..guess if you held it upside down it might work as a lefty...scope mounts would be a challenge though...
