What is a 1903 Savage pump action 22 in excellent shape worth now a days? I have one I'm interested in but $500.00 seems a bit steep. I offered a nice 1950's R with a Weaver 4x scope with original sling eyes in trade but he wasn't interested. It seems like the 99 market is really flat now but I would think it's worth 500 bucks at least. Might have to try selling the 99 to buy the 1903. I appreciate any input.

Kind of amazing that a nice 99R wouldn't be considered fair trade fodder for a 1903 pump 22, understanding scarcity and all. It seems to me your R should be worth at least 500 if not more.

Is there anything special about the 1903? For instance is it marked 22 short only? Does it have a longer than 24 inch barrel? Is the buttplate a metal cresent buttplate or composite shotgun style?

Then there is condition: original condition or redone? If original,% blue left and %finish on wood. Extra holes in either? How's the bore? Does it have an original magazine?

If it is as nice as you say 500 may be reasonable, they aren't making anymore but there are still a lot of survivors out there.

Personally, I would rather have a pristine 1903 than a run of the mill R. R's aren't tomato stakes, but they do make good tent poles.

I didn't have the 1903 in my hands personally but from the pics you'd be hard pressed to find another one in as nice condition so it's worth it I suppose.
I guess ill take my R and go set my tent. Lol

If its any consolation, I have a post war R that, going by the one pic of yours I saw, is in better condition, and couldn't sell it for the same amount walking it around local gunshows here in PA. I picked a pre war R I like better.

If a 1903 is of interest, keep an eye on gunbroker, there are several on there now. One has the wrong butt stock on it.

I like the pre war R's better also, I have a pair real nice R's. I see a lot of 99's for sale but not much bidding going on. I'm thinking of trading it for a tent, no sense just having the poles, right gnoahh? 😁

Hey, a nice 99 is a nice 99. I personally think that, like Winchester 94s and 03A3s, everybody should have one good R or EG in the front closet; and change out the forearm on the R and you have an EG. But if you have two then by all means... I still think its a bit crazy valuing a good R under a 22 pump but as they day in this wacky new world of twits and texts, that's only IMHO! BOL in your decision and its always good having choices and fun in life.
