Finally found somebody that visited the museum and posted up pictures.

Social media isn't ALL bad.

This was posted up in a thread in the main forum as well. Looks like they use a ratty 1899A for the trappers gun in this.

I have read a few different books on the "Mad Trapper" and they really are not sure of who he really was, whoever he was one tough S.O.B. !!. Im suprised the model "E" that he used was in 30-30,probably easier ammo to get everywhere compared to 303 savage. That sawed off shotgun would be a killer up to about 15'.easy to keep in a pack that way.Don

It's a takedown, Don. 99F. For having been in a dynamited cabin, that thing has a lot of condition left to it.

Ya,Rory i spaced it was indead a "F" ,In Dick Norths book it shows a pretty good picture and discription of everything he had on him when he was killed. Was he really Albert Johnson,or was he Arthur Nelson ? Don

I think the DNA testing has shot down every guess as to who he was.

It sure made a great storyline for the movie whoever he was

There's nothing wrong with social media at all just so long as you don't allow it to play you for a fool. But that rule pretty much goes for many things in life. Thanks for the post!

Sorry to re-inflate on old thread but I stumbled across this little bit of info today and thought others might be interested. It looks like someone applied for a letter from Savage for the Mad Trapper's 1899.

If I remember correctly the DNA suggested he came from the mid west via Scandinavia.

Don't quite know how they figured that out?
