[/color][color:#3333FF]I'm new to the forum and was hoping to gather some information. I have two takedowns, one from 1915 and another from 1919 in 25-35 and 22HP, both with 20 inch barrels. I've been unsuccessful in finding a 250-3000 takedown with a 20 inch barrel made from the same decade. I've found a few 22 inch and I'm afraid I may be seeking a rifle that Savage simply didn't make. Has anyone seen a 250-3000 takedown with 20 inch barrel? The earlier the better.

I'm not sure if it is tradition to introduce yourself as a new member, in a nutshell I retired in January 2008, live in coastal Georgia, and like lever actions and wheel guns. My favorite caliber is 32-20 (pistol) and 405 Winchester (rifle). I target shoot weekly and only occasionally hunt anymore,

I think all the early .250-3000s takedowns were 22" (Model 1899 250-3000, 99F and 99G).

There were a couple non-takedowns in the 60s/70s that had a .250-3000 20", the 99Es and the early 70s 99As. Finding a 20" 99E would be extremely difficult. I think you could find 70s 99A if you were patient and kept looking.

Keith's posting is correct...no early 20", 250-300's.

Your two 20" TD rifles are Model 1899-H's. That variationwas available in .303 Savage, .30-30, .25-35 and the .22HP.

Welcome indeed. Glad to see another popgunner, at least with handlguns (The .405 definitely doesn't qualify!). I've alwalys liked .32-20s, long and short. Still have a Win 1885 Lowall SS and a couple of Colts (5" Army Special and 4 3/4" Bisley SA I got in Mexico in 1961. It was made in 1910 but apparently missed the Revolution....).

But it was bored up from a 1913 22 Hi Power.

I never thought of that. Were you satisfied with the gunsmithing on your conversion from 22HP to 250-3000? Such as feeding, ejection, and accuracy?

About 5 years ago I went through many, many gunsmiths wanting a 405win conversion and couldn't find a gunsmith in the southeast who was interested. I then gave up and moved on to other rifles and projects.

I can't comment on the gunsmithing other than accuracy. The former owner wrote me letters before his passing of his collection. This particular rifle he mentioned was professionally rebored and refinished in around the early 1960's. I believe they'd use a 14/1 twist at that time but I haven't cast/measure the rifling. I only know it likes 100 gr vs 87 gr bullets. And I've not found an earlier year (1913) in .250 that's been guaged to this bore.

Now, if you look closely, it appears *IF* it had been refinished (other than the bore) you'd think you'd see more buffing marks. I don't see any. But I KNOW it's been staked (Click hyperlink for picture) so that it is no longer a take-down. Perhaps because of the boring up to .250 and the gunsmith didn't the barrel to move while reboring?
Maybe you guys can speculate?

No issues on feeding, or anything! It's became my open sight tack driver on the range....unintionally embarassing .223 black rilfes with scopes at 100 yards.
