Don't know what renovation is taking place, but it's absolutely worth a stop to see what's open.

Planning a family vacation to Yellowstone next year, that is one of the stops along the way. Heard it’s supposed to be worth it.

I know nothing about the renovations, but it is a great museum. It is really four museums in one - the Buffalo Bill museum, the Plains Indian museum, the western art museum, and the firearms museum. You need to spend the better part of a day there to do it all justice.

Do it!!

Our Cody Firearms Museum is about to be fully renovated!

If you are traveling to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West sometime in the next year and a half, and plan to visit the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM) as part of your visit, please be patient as we prepare for the upcoming changes. It’s a very exciting time for us but we do recognize many visitors have concerns over what this means for their experience here with us during the Cody Firearms Museum renovation.

Between now and August 12, 2018, the Cody Firearms Museum will retain its original configuration, while some elements move to the Center’s other four museums. In July 2018, we open an exhibition of many of our top firearms in the CFM Breezeway.

On August 13, 2018, we begin construction on the actual Firearms Museum space.
But don’t worry!

During the construction process, we will still have approximately five hundred of our top firearms on display until the museum is complete. The completely redesigned and renovated Cody Firearms Museum opens in its new configuration in summer or fall 2019.

I have been there several times for one day. I couldn't see it all so we decided to got for two days, still not enough time. You'd better plan for at least 3 days if you really want to see it all. David

When my wife and I visited the museum, we planned on being there when the doors opened and leaving 4 hours later. We locked the doors and turned out the lights when we left. My wife was most impressed and it was mostly due to her we stayed so long.

Hopefully, the addition will allow for even more firearms to be displayed. There were a goodly number of firearms on display but there are even more in storage. I had loaned a couple of guns to the museum and was escorted to storage to see them. I was surprised that so many appeared to be "working guns" even those on display. I have a handful more I am considering to loan to the museum but am not ready to do so yet.

One of two 1895 muskets known to exist is there. Lots of good stuff, from Savage Browning 50cal (WW2) to 99's to Savage manufacturing equipment - and a ton of stuff besides Savage. Some of the Stevens rifles they have are gorgeous.

No price.. and the museum security looked a bit too good. grin grin

Heck, I just want it long enough to pull the crescent buttplate and look underneath!

I thought there were more 1895 muskets than that. I have photos of Doug's and Cody's in my book. I know there are only 2 known 1899 muskets (not counting the MHG) and Doug has one of those which is also in the book. I posted photos of the Savage equipment some time ago.

I only know of one 1899 musket - Fug's.

The logs show that there were 1895-D's produced and I know of at lease 4 that were converted and resold. I know of two (Fug's and the one at Cody) that are still in there original form. Where the others went to...
