I have decided I need to sell some of my Savage collection and let someone else enjoy them for a spell. I have consigned them to a Gunbroker seller that I feel takes a good number of really good pictures and starts everything at a penny...no reserve.

At the risk of offending the "no live auction folks" I am going to provide a link to the one that is up for sale this week in case someone here is looking to fill a hole in their 99G collection. This same seller will be listing a couple of other good honest, all original, without cracks or holes 99G's in future weeks in 30-30 and 303. There will also be a nice EG in 250 and a 1920 with Lyman 54 sight in 250.

The one for sale this week at GB is a Savage 99G in 22 HP and is the nicest Savage I own. I hope whoever gets it will appreciate the condition on this 80-year-old rifle.

Good luck sir. Wish I was in the bidding, but such will not be the case. I hope the new owner appreciates such a piece.

What's next?

griz,
I am curious if you were happy with the selling price. That was certainly a very nice and difficult to find rifle.

It was more than I paid for it, so I guess I'm happy.

Tough letting go, but good on you. I also have a 1899 .22 HP that I’ll be selling shortly, but not nearly as clean as yours

Good deal! I too look forward to what's next.

Every rifle needs to stand on its own. Given its rarity and condition, this rifle provided it’s true market value. It had the three most important ingredients. Rarity, condition and a market place for buyers to compete. Both the winning bidder and seller came to an agreement. It does not get much simpler than that.

Guns like this have a following. When these firearms show up, they include the most discerning of bidders. Think more of it as purchasing art, vs a firearm purchase.

The rifle sold for what it was worth.

If you want to know what your gun is worth, put it in an auction that the whole world can bid on and start it at $1

Doesn't get any simpler than that....

IMO it was a nice rifle and it brought a fair price.

I think gunbroker is a place where FFL s with cameras can sell on commission.

It is a total buyers market.

Not a buyer here, looking at the pictures of the rifle the but stock fit well it?

That's a nice looking 99 BUT it should have a lever boss code with one or two numbers and the letter B in an oval. The serial number places it near the middle of the 1950 production range.
Posted By: Jaaack Re: Selling Some Savage 99's - 12/19/18
It’s also odd to me that the digits in the serial number are not aligned and look as if they were stamped with two different size stamps.
Posted By: griz Re: Selling Some Savage 99's - 12/19/18
Can't explain the lack of LBC or the serial # digits. The guy I bought it from claimed he purchased it new in the 50's.

Gun looks right to me

If you really want to find the date code you can remove the butt stock and look for the stamp on the receiver. It's stamped more places than that dam lever boss.
Posted By: wyo1895 Re: Selling Some Savage 99's - 12/20/18
It looks like a nice rifle and as far as that symbol on the LBC goes, "with Savage never say never". I would take Lightfoot's advice and look elsewhere for the date code. It also seems like I've one or two 99's with sloppy alignment on the serial #. Probably breaking in a new guy on that job. David
