I recently bought a Kollmorgen Stith Bear Cub II 7/8" scope for a 7/8" Stith mount for a Savage 99. I was holding out for a Lyman Alaskan, but this was about $200+ cheaper and has excellent optics, so I went this route. I did some searching on the campfire and only see a few references to it. I am wondering if the Bear Cub II is also referred to as the Bear Cub Deluxe. I've been looking in Nick Stroebel's book and he refers to the 7/8", 2.5x, elevation adjust only scopes as Bear Cub Deluxe. Since the scope is branded with Kollmorgen and Stith, I assume it was made prior to 1956. Maybe Deluxe wouldn't fit on the windage adjustment where it's marked as a Bear Cub II, or is Stroebel's book missing data for the IIs?

Wouldn’t hurt to also post in the Hunting Optics forum.
That, sir, is a great idea. Somehow I missed that forum. Thanks for the advice.

I bet the optics are as good or no worse (if not better) than an Alaskan

To be honest, I've never actually looked through an Alaskan, they and the Norman Ford Texans are the only 7/8" fixed power scopes I was aware of. I was a little taken aback with how crisp and clear this Kollmorgen is. This entire process has been sort of a comedy of errors. When I bought the Stith mount I thought it was for a 3/4" scope. I knew it was smaller than 1" but 7/8" didn't even occur to me. I'm pretty happy how it all turned out.
