OMG I am so sorry. I just thought someone else might find the mechanics interesting. Machined bolt face, enlarged extractor, what else? What about the rotor and cartridge guide? Wonder if it even feeds?

BOW-WOW!!!! I thought something had crawled up on the forearm and died till I got to the pic of the bottom of the forearm. Another good thing D&T'd top and side opens up a lot of scope mounting options. I thought barrels were ported to reduce recoil. I never noticed recoil from 5.56 M16's and AR's. Maybe they don't recoil much because they are autos or semi-autos and this baby kicks the snot out of the shooter. What will Bubba come up with next?

Hey listen, I'm gunna need your address if I'm gunna get this sweet baby to you Stephen. Don't worry about any imperfections, it'll buff right out.

*And I have no redeeming qualities so quit looking for any. Save yourself the disappointment.

Ahhh, 223 needs a full blown GPS system.

It's a curiosity anyhows.
Posted By: JeffG Re: 223 in a 99 - 09/06/19
A true Tinkerbell would buy it just to dig into the details... maybe discover (somehow, beyond all logic) it might actually shoot.. And if it didn't you'd be protecting an unsuspecting new 99 owner from getting hurt! You could always screw on one of your 410 barrels and make it work as a pigeon gun. I'd put it on my watch list, but, sadly I'll be away when it ends...

Jeff,
You know you don't have to be there when it ends. Bid now, make the bid high enough to ensure victory, and go to the head of the class with a pure bred mongrel laugh laugh laugh

I'll betcha that if the 99 were revived that the first round it would be offered in would be either .223 or 6.5CM.

The last platform I would want a .223 in would be a lever gun. But, I would truly like to see this one to understand how they got it work- which I highly suspect it doesn't.
Posted By: Fireball2 Re: 223 in a 99 - 09/06/19
I sent a message to the seller asking if it feeds. No reply. But that's not unusual, they rarely answer questions.

I'm usually pretty open minded about this type of thing. If it's your gun... Chop it up however you want.

But that thing is hard to even look at. What a mess.

I'll bet it's a 22HP that had the pipe wrench marks and barrel stampings filed off, then bubba measured the bore with his tape measure....it's the only high power 22 caliber he knows of, so it must be 223.

should be lighter with all those extra holes..

I've seen worse. In the morgue.

The rifle is a 1932, 99-H, barrel band (V2-1) which was only produced in .303 and .30-30 so who knows the what or where of the barrel.

I doubt that it is a .22HP barrel.

That's it, Beautiful!! ...but it's kinda like viewing it at a wake. Are you going to get us some out-of-doors pictures of it, not in the glass casket?

The spinach style fore end if highly sought after by true collectors. Adds lots of grippy-ness.

Picturing a 223 case mated up with a 30-30 bolt face got me thinking... a 99 based single shot rifle wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I mean, not this one...

Hey man show a little respect. We're in mourning here.

How can a seller be so out of touch with reality? It's insulting to even have that presented to a potential purchaser.
Posted By: Fireball2 Re: 223 in a 99 - 09/07/19
Reply from the seller regarding function-

"It feeds and extracts the rounds well, no issues with a mag full.
It takes a swift motion to eject the shells but works very well.
The action is just a tiny bit stiff when locking into battery but is not an issue.
The rifle looks like it was worked on to make sure it feeds properly.
I don’t have any headspace gauge to check it."

One a you fellers ought to hop right on that. Be the only guy on your block with a Savage 99 in 223!

I wonder if it has a custom rotor. Those little skinny 223's should rattle around in the magazine like a castanet. No Savages were ever chambered in anything that skinny.
