anyone had any experience with one? all these years I kept telling myself I wouldn't buy a post mil, well I pulled the trigger on one, pardon the pun.

Sure Ken, they're a killer cartridge. Mild to shoot. Mine have been accurate with plain old Hornady 200's but I recently loaded some Barnes 180's to try.

Have had a Brush Gun version for 40 years. First rifle I bought on my own after turning 18. Kills deer very well with 200 gr Hornady spire points. Groups in the 1.25 range for 3 shots at 100. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I'm sure other bullets work as well but I started with the Hornady's and never found a need to look elsewhere. Have also loaded 158 gr jacketed pistol bullets for cheaper shooting that's easier on the shoulder.

The trigger pull on mine is a bit heavy but manageable. My rifle currently wears a Leupold VX2 (?) 2-7 but has had a variety of 4X scopes over the years.

I can't speak to factory ammo, I bought dies the same day I bought the rifle.

I have an EG in 358. Very easy to shoot and pretty accurate too.

I have an EG in 358. Shoots extremely well with factory Hornady 200gr.

I have a R in 358. The F, EG, and R x 358 are all pre-mil rifles with lever safety and cut checkering, so those are out there too.

I have a pre-mil F 358. I also shoot the 180 Barnes. It will put bullets damn near through the same hole. It doesn’t seem to have any more recoil than a 308 to me. I think you will like it a lot.

Got a post mill F with bishop stocks. Have had good luck for whitetail with the 225 gr Sierra and a max load of IMR4895. Worked in a BLR, a Ruger 77, and a Win 88. Bigger nasty stuff readily succumbs to a Speer 220 FN. A case full of IMR 4064 worked well here--max load by Speer manual.
