Not sure if we have seen this question in awhile.

With ever changing collections, the answers can change as well.

I have 2 really scary accurate 99s. One is pretty predictable. A post war 99R in 250. The other is a lot less predictable. A Spiegel EG in 303 wearing a stith and K3. This 303 has more than a few sub MOA days under its belt at the range. It also killed a nice 8 point at 125 yards in 2014 as well.

You?

1945 99EG in 300. Loves heavy bullets, 180gr Partitions are murder.

Back in 2016 I needed a backup gun for my Maine moose hunt. My primary was my Rem M30 in .35 Whelen, for the back up I decided to take a 99DL in .358 that had been in the safe for about 10 years, never shot it. I put on an old Kollmorgen or Redfield 1.5x and tried some factory Hornady. I was quite surprised. Never got to use it on that trip but I have confidence in it and will use it again this year in the Catskills.

This one has potential if I ever go target hunting. Did I already show you guys this? I forget.

Why no, Roy. Pray tell how did that come about? grin

My most accurate was one of my 1899H .22 HP's. Now it's the M1899 M.250-3000. Pretty nifty accuracy with the tang sight and Super Secret Squirrel ammo, and am sure it would be niftier with a scope on it but that ain't happening.

I was just, foolin' about.
I haven't put in enough time with most of them to really see what they can do. But two of the three that I've worked with the most (99T 300 and 99EG 250-3000) both will do 1 moa; both are scoped. But the one that has surprised me the most is a 1920 1899H 303 that does about 1.5" with a 57SA, when I do my part. Have only fired the 1916 250-3000 one time, but it looked like it has real good potential with some load tweaking.

Jeff, I'm considering D&Ting that checkered EG 30-30 and putting on a scope to see what it can do crazy ... NOT.

Lightning can strike anywhere anytime and a one hole target is just a one hole target.

And 3" rifles kill deer just as dead as 1" rifles.

Personally, I can't remember ever owning a 99 that I could not make accurate "enough" (at least by my standards) with the right ammo.

Some are/where more accurate than others. To me anyway, the quality of the trigger is often overlooked.

I always test the trigger before I look down the bore. All the 99's I currently own are very accurate and have very good (at least by 99 standards) triggers.

Perhaps I place more value on the trigger than others.

I've had 99's with good triggers and some that where horrible and everything tween.

Keith,

Great idea!! Might as well put in a compass, as well as a hand carved buck head in the stock too. And drill for scope mounts, with super high see thru scope mounts, and a Golden Antler scope.

Envy is an ugly thing.

From 20 yards.

Did I ever show you this one?
I reckon my 250R. Longest shot on a deer just under 200. I asked our pig guide where to shoot a big pig with the 250? He said the way you shoot that thing, in the eye. So, I shot him in the left eye, came out under the right eye, he died. The HP did OK last year with a bang flop, neck shot. I guess the one in hand that puts meat on the pole is the most accurate at the time.

My most accurate 99 is my 99F in 250-3,000. It won't shoot 100 grain bullets worth beans, but it shoots 87 grainers and the Sierra 90 grain HPBT very well. I have been loading Leverolution powder with the 90 grain Sierras and getting 3,000 fps with no pressure problems. I might even take it to the Catskills this November.

All four of my 99s have the old style trigger, which can be improved by some light gunsmithing. That is explained in a book by Roy Dunlap.
My most accurate, is also my least favorite, a mid 50s 99F in .308. Close contender is a 1948-ish EG in .300. I assume the 99F is the most accurate because it has the best scope out of all my 99s.
Sadly, a local bench-rest shooter once owned the most accurate Savage 99 in my possession. He told me it was a "one holer" and I would never get my hands on it. Ironically, he just past after a brief illness.

It's a 1955 model "F" chambered for 300 SAV with a Lyman 57A on it. I've never shot this rifle because I'm still somewhat shocked that this said same highly touted rifle was purchased, unbeknownst to me, from a past acquaintance.

If the rifle doesn’t “one hole” bullets is it a reflection of my shooting ability? My reloading prowess? Or was the gun misrepresented? Do I really want to go down this rabbit hole?

Thus the gun is unfired by me...

I’m new to 99’s, have six, all will shoot an inch or less. I have a 99F in 358 that will rag out a hole. It’s as accurate as any bolt gun I own. I’m amazed how accurate 99’s are!

This is today's 100yd scope check, I had a pretty good 3-shot group going, then I yanked the 4th.., oh well, it leaves me with no excuses in the field!

I'm feeling ready for rifle season, ..., or should I say, "I'm feeling Redding" my 99 x 270 Redding to be more precise.

Let Roy know I had to use a scope, and he's still the champ for one-shot groups.

my 99 in 3030 shoots the hornady factory gummy tip inside 1 ' most all the time. going to use it this year for everything. from deer to hogs and all in between. the older I get the more I enjoy using older gun.
