The geno project has expanded from the Savage Engravers to include a Savage Wood Carver who is believed to have carved the Monarchs. Rick99 got me started on this one.

The gathered info is new, rough and has lots of holes as all of these genealogy endeavors do.
I have a good start and hopeful more info will trickle in. I've been in contact with Kings G-G-Grandson who has been helpful.

W.I. King - William Irving King
Born in Brooklyn in 1871 which is where his wife and her family lived as well.
Made his way to Sauquiot, NY (south of Utica) as a "carpenter" ~1900 +/-.
It appears in the cold winter months his wife and child moved back to Brooklyn with family while he did work for Savage. Not sure if he resided there or what??
I'm trying to establish where he was, when and what he did. It's coming together and questions remain.
This "timeline" draws a preliminary picture which is subject to change.
It also shows potentially which rifles he carved and a few other carved rifles that may have been done by someone else. Not clear yet.
Sometime around 1910 the Kings pulled up stakes and moved to Oregon. No idea why.
I understand while in Oregon he continued to carve as a hobby until his death in 1950. Not sure if he did rifles any longer.
There are evidently other King carved items in the family and I hope to access them at some point.
You never know what may turn up....
