Posted By: RAS SavageFest 2020 Update. Need input - 01/04/20
All:

I am definitely going to have it this year in Escanaba, MI. I am thinking late May. Probably May 29-31. This coincides with the opener of the bass season, and the walleye should still be just outside the rivers. I caught numerous big ones last year, including my personal best of 30 inches, and 10.5 pound walleye at this time. Even if you don’t want to fish, it’s still a real pretty time to be in the UP. Lots of trout streams too.

How does this date sound for you all?? I can make adjustments if it helps a lot of you out. Input is welcome. Trying to make it a great event for all of you.

RAS
It sounds like you fellas are going to have a great time.
Im thinking about making the trip. Long haul but would like to meet up with the guys again.

Joe
Joe, all I know is PA is above MD, and MI is above PA, would it be doable to swing by and pick you up?
RAS-of course I'm interested. The only caveat is I just started a new job. I'll have to talk to my boss and see if I can get time off. I might just be available for the weekend.
Late May works for me. I'll be there. Since I have a wide variety of Savage stuff, any requests for what I might bring?

Darrell
That time is pretty busy for me, but I might be able to come for a day.
I may be able to come.
I'm thinking "yes". I'll grab Joe and then have The Other Joe meet us somewhere West of Harrisburg then journey up to the wilds of the UP. (Or talk Pugs into flying us all up there.)
It is a good date for me.
One more thing about Escanaba. The new Marble Arms museum just opened up and it is really neat to see. Everything about Marbles will be there. I am going to work on a private showing just for us. Security will be a local County Sheriff deputy.
Thats a busy time for me, but should be able to make it work, might have to try some trout fishing!
May is coming up fast.
I'll plan on it.

If you work it right, you can cover 3 Great Lakes in the same day. Easily.
Huron, Michigan & Superior.

The dates work for me.

Some fly fishing for trout has caught my attention.

Will there be the possibility of some range time?

I'd be heading up from Florida, through Atlanta, Nashville and Chicago, if anyone needs a lift...
That weekend works for me. Its the only weekend in May and June that works, so great!
BTT
Sounds like I should be able to get May 28th-31st off from work.
Don't look good for the home team. Currently have health issues digging me into a less than desirable financial situation, so I regretfully probably won't be able to make it. I hunted 10 miles shy of Escanaba for the last 10 years. Beautiful area. I sure it will be quite festive, and attendees should take the time slay a few walleyes while there. Hope all turns out well.

I'm betting if finances are the only thing keeping you from making it, health issues aside, the fellas here might be able to help you out. I would.

It is less than $200 to fly from Detroit Metro to Escanaba with Delta Airlines. It’s less than an hour flight too. Beats the hell out of 7.5 hours of driving.
Jerry, Joe and Joe and I can pick you up on our way through. You can bunk with one of us, and we'll keep you fed and "watered". Please consider!

Same here
As with savage folklore, never say never. I greatly appreciate the support, and will evaluate my situation as developments unfold. I would love to make it to the U.P cause being a Michigander, I love the Upper after being there many, many times. Being with a bunch of Savage nuts makes it all more special. Thanks to all who responded in kindness. I sincerely hope something happens that will enable me to make the pilgrimage to the holy land.
Jerry

I love the "keep me watered " sentiment. That is the upmost stimuli to motivate me to think positive.
You guys are great!

Love the teamwork.

Tim
Is this open to anyone on the forum?
It's pretty much forum only event. We "try" to do one "East Coast" one year, and "West Coast" the next. Gets a little hard on the guys in the middle. Not open to the general public. Since Jeff is the man with the plan this year, he may have some house rules, but they will get hammered out way in advance.
In short.. yes, open to forum members who “pre-register”. There’s always a sign up sheet ahead of time. Usually walkins aren’t allowed because most of us don’t want to sit and protect our tables from theft by anonymous folks who walk in.

Bump
Last summers get together in Pa I was told it was ok to bring my buddy, who was originally from Oregon but recently moved to Pa to work for Morphy auctions. He's an FFL. He didn't end up being able to make it but he was welcome. I can see complete strangers and the general public not being allowed!
Fireball, yes.. that's how it's been in the past as long as those folks were added beforehand. Thanks for expanding on that.. Guests/family members of forum members have been allowed before.

I think last time the Fest was even opened up to the FaceBook group, but that was before that group grew to 3000 people or whatever it is now.

Host will have to decide some of these things.

Yes, but you won't be able to take all your Savage Rifles!
Hello all:

A question of range time came up. The answer is yes, there is a range that has 25, 50 and 100 yard targets. Also, an indoor pistol range.

More info to follow soon. Keep the questions/suggestions coming.

This event is not open to the public. It will be only for people who register beforehand.

All the best,
Jeff
Thanks guys. I was mainly checking to make sure it was okay if I came wink Still on the fence about making the drive solo, but I'm sure it's about as close to me as one is going to be so I'll probably suck it up and go. I'll definitely RSVP or sign up when the time comes if I do indeed decided to go.
You won't regret it damnesia! Can't say that for most things nowadays!
I did shoot a bear this fall with .303 Savage and the bear brats are in freezer. They will make trip to 2020 Fest along with some smoked lake trout from Lake Superior. Its not all about guns! But its mostly about Savages... And I found way to get into safe that had Savage 22's that didn't make trip to 2018 Fest. They'll make trip across U.P., too.
I would like to try and make it.
Things are kind of tough around the homestead since my wife's stroke a year ago November, but she is urging me to go, and thinks our granddaughter can stay with her a few days. If I come, I'll try to drag Merle with me (so there is at least one person who can use a 36 belt). May have some 99's to dispose of, as Old Man Time is knocking on my door pretty hard.
Im also thinking of trying to make this one! hard to make plans, right now!
John I might be able to pick you up on the way if that will help
Be nice to split the cost of gas ect. and have one to talk with!
I’m an hour away and interested. Will pre-registration be via this thread?
RAS/Rick99 will start another thread later for registration.
Okay. Thank you.
Late May should be ok for me. . I should be able to get to Milwaukee on American Airlines and start from there and it will be nice to share expenses with someone else going from WI too. Please note that im too old to drive. I'm not bringing any guns, maybe some souveniers and pics only of my Savages. Mel ps: i'm not making Hawaiian teriyaki chicken this time, too damn much work!!!
