Anybody have one of these in 223, im guessing they were built in the 80’s, in that caliber.

Did they even make one in 223? I've seen 222's and heard of 225s

But then again I could write down everything I know about 340's on a gum wrapper.

There was one at a show yesterday, really nice shape, I have one in 222 and 30-30, both accurate.

I've seen one in 223 and it was a later model 340E. I have one in 22 hornet and 30-30. Would like to find one in 222 some day.

Yes, I have one in 223. It's a series E, inexpensive fun gun.

Sounds like your question was answered. I've always had an itch to play with an early 340 in triple two. I knew of a shooter who back in the 70s has a 222 that shot like a gem until he had it re-chambered into 223. Then not so much. I don't know the particulars, only the story.

the 222 I have now is the first one I ever had. over the last 40 years or so I have gone through several dozen 340's. the only one I have never had is a 223.
my 222 was my oldest brothers. he rolled a cat on himself and I got the gun. it has traveled around my family over the years but now it is home.
during its travels someone tried to float the barrel and lost the front strap retainer. when I got it back it wouldn't hit a elephant if you were laying on top of it.
replaced the strap and it went back to a moa shooter.
I bought a replacement 223 barrel for it years ago but never got it swapped out. glad I grew up and forgot that idea!

They arent rare, but you seldom see them. The 30-30s are getting hard to find also.

and the prices have gone through the roof.
bought the first one in 3030 for 35.00

Picked up a 222, then shortly thereafter a 223. Will grab a 225 eventually. I have early 340's in 22 Hornet and 30-30.

.223 and .225 are the two I think wouldn't want in a 340. Single locking lug, high intensity cartridges? Didn't Savage drop the .225 when they started getting nasty letters from the field re: headspace growth?
