I am working on a deal with a guy for a 51 EG in 300 I have only seen pictures it looks really good it has a crack behind the tang but the guy say,s it is stable and that he has shimmed it also comes with Lyman sight he say's the for stock is loose $650 Canadian

Hard saying if thats a good price without pictures or a better description. Regardless, I would try talking him down on the tang crack as I don't think there is anything such as a stable crack short of gluing it up.

Tang cracks never get any better.

You might want to buy it just for the Lyman if it a 29 1/2, 30 1/2 or 56 or 57 and ditch the gun. I've bough rifles before just to get the sight or scope off them.

If you just want to hunt it and don't care if it glued and screwed no prob. If you want to shoot it more than 5 times a year, I'd pass

Haven't been collecting 99s for years but I did do quite a bit of research and hunting for the best priced one and you could find a better deal on a cracked stock than $650 as long as youre patient.
