Since it's bascially a "Buy Now" auction, I feel safe posting this live auction. This is one I haven't seen. If the price was better I would own it. Anybody got a 99F cut checkered post mil 358?
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/863248556
I had one and an early 99DL/M with a 24" barrel that I regretted selling about a nanosecond after I deposited the buyer's check.
I've seen a few cut checkered DL's in 358 including one here, but I can't remember ever seeing this one. I have the same rifle in 250-3000 which is a one or at most 2 year rifle, they sure would look good together! But dang, $2500? Whew.
OP you talking pre mil or post mil ?
That's a pretty damn proud price the seller has on that 99.
Too much for this 99 lover / medium bore whore. Be Well, Rustyzipper.
So....did you buy it yet Fireball?
I paid WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY more than that for my last 358.... But it did NOT have a tang safety and the serial # was south of 1,000,000.
Is a checkered R rare in a 358 ?
All R's are checkered, and any R in 308/358/243 is rare - listed here in order of least rare to most rare.
A friend had one until they broke into his truck one day , he was out on hunt and had gone in for lunch with his buddy and left it locked up in his truck . that was 15 years ago and he still gets wound up about it ..
plab
That is a beautiful gun Roy. I don't love it enough to pay that kind of money for it though. Although, the cut checkered post mil rifles from 1960-63 era have grown on me recently.
Anyway, getting back to the post war R's. I think they made about 10 243 post war R's. For a long time I thought that 243 post mil R's were just a myth, but I have seen a few turn up over the years.
Roy, What ever happened to that one you got a while ago that somebody threw out of an airplane?
We (I) need an update.
I know a R for sale in 358 , if anyone is interested ,,,,,1500 Looks like it has a tang and a lever safety .. Not sure on serial range

That isn't a very good price for a 300. Be a great price for a 243.
Caliber is important
Like this one?
Not for me but a reasonable price for a post mil R without issues.
All of the Winchester calibers are sought after in post war R's and EG's
358s More desirable than the 375 ?
I am clueless on 99s. What is the gold button in front on the tang safety?
358s More desirable than the 375 ?
Can't speak for anyone else, But I'd rather have a 358 that a 375.
375 really nothing more than a reincarnated 38-55

I got it repaired before I moved and still have it.

Not the best time to be spending thousands of dollars on rifles with the communists tanking the economy to steal the election from Trump.
The time to buy it is when you find it!

I would usually agree, my problem is I have a habit of finding too many. Can't buy em all.
I have been in this shop a couple times as it is only about a half hour drive or so from me. Beautiful shop and incredible inventory. And they are "proud" with all their prices, even on the pretty common stuff. But they do have alot that you don't see every day.

Sounds like a fun shop!
*Just found another *must have* tonight, even though it's a duplicate. See what I mean?
So many good Savages so little money.

I know the one you speak of. It has 3 extra holes on the left side for a scope mount. Since all R's were factory drilled for standard bases, this is hard to overlook..
If it's an R it's pre-mil. Does it have one of the tang safety conversions we see occasionally on lever safety 99's?
Yeah, the one with the metal extension to the tang with the tang safety on it.
too bad it has extra holes, I'd be a buyer if it wasn't for them.
I picked up a pretty decent one last year without the extra holes from same seller. Odd seeing another pop up. Somebody probably thinning their collection.
Now if only they'd let go of the 99R in 243..
I am, if you are talking about me! Busy, new job, same place. New developments in my business side too.
