I was trying to get through to Parsons with no luck and did reach out to Long here in Texas but watched a few videos and said why not.

Stopped by Tandy in Houston last Saturday and bought tools and leather. I wanted a leather sheath for the Ingram on the left that I bought off the 'fire that arrived with a Kydex sheath that I don't like in any way. I daily carry the Ingram on the right in my left front pocket since an LCP in normally in my my right front pocket and I don't belt carry unless hunting.

I made a ton of mistakes, belt loop is for left hand carry, its too narrow at the top, lots of tool marks, horrible saddle stitch, but I have a sheath that is better than the Kydex even with all the mistakes.

But I have a lot of leather and the tools to start another as well as other projects.

You have to start somewhere and for a first attempt not bad.

I imagine you learned a great deal from that first attempt...very service-worthy in my estimate. Good going!

RDW, your doing far better than me and I made numerous sheaths before giving up.

My Fdick boning knife is sheathed in a hunk of cardboard wrapped in duck tape. The redneck is strong in this one.

I know everyone is down on Facebook now, but there are any number of knife making and sheath making groups that feature pix of all kinds of sheaths. I do a screen capture and keep them in a folder for inspiration.

I think your sheath looks better than good.

I didn’t specify leather 2 Ingram’s ago, he sent Kydex. On my last one I asked for a leather replacement to be sent with my next order. He formed it on another knife he was making. Don’t remember the cost, but it was minimal and added to my knife order.

Looks pretty good for a first sheath to me. There might be a few areas where you think you made a mistake, but I can see a ton of places where you didn't make a mistake, but did good. It looks to me like the top is about right with the bottom being a little wide, instead of the top being narrow. That is easy to fix with the pattern on the next one. If you come up with what is going to be a left hand sheath (happens to all of us from time to time) just flip it over and make a rough side out sheath. People love them and the older they get the better they look.

Don't get discouraged and never show anyone your scrap leather box... nobody needs to know what you tried that didn't work out!

Here is number two, I am much happier with the results and oddly it was a rush job from 11pm-1am this morning although I applied the dye this afternoon.

That’s seriously impressive. You should pursue it since you clearly have a talent for it. You start taking on work, I’d like a leather sheath for a small knife I only have kydex for.

This is a rough side out 1911 holster I made while working on a pattern with a piece of leather that had some marks on the smooth side. It turned into a pattern with a paddle type belt attachment that works a lot better than I thought it would. To some people, if you make sheaths for your knives, then you should be good at making holsters too. I'm not sure if it works that way or not...It's just an example of a rough out sheath that I mentioned above.
