I have a knife that I really like but the scales are junk. Wondering if there are any bladesmiths that I could send it off to for some new grip scales?

I'll look him up, thanks.

It's a buck mini alpha hunter, 154cm steel. Current scales appear to be diamond wood with a camo coating and are poorly fit. Not my pic but looks like the below image.

I would like some micarta or G10 scales fit to it. Maybe something similar to below.

You’d be looking for “burlap micarta” then. I’ll be at the Blade Show in two weeks. If I find some, I’ll give you a shout out.

I do like the burlap but open to other materials and/or colors.

Thanks.

You might want to narrow down your color choices for him.

The burlap is super cool. I haven’t looked today, but a couple weeks ago I ordered some from Jantz.

If you are halfway handy you could replace the scales yourself pretty easy with minimum tools. You could buy a piece of micarta, and cut it out with a bandsaw or even a coping saw, and with 1/8 brass round stock for the pins sourced from local hardware store or same place you get the micarta. A cheap drill press or even a handrill and a vice and with a little epoxy voila. A belt sander would be super handy, but with some rough files and sand paper you could do it too, it’d just take longer.

You can buy scale sized pieces of handle material too, no need to drop coin on a big chunk.
