Anything better than a Morakniv for $9.99? Victorinox paring knife, Dexter Russel filet and boning knives… some really good tools for small $$.
Posted By: Dillonbuck Re: Cheap knives - 08/18/21
The Last two are what pros use.

Won't see a lot of $300 Pride of Ownership knives in a butcher shop
or kitchen.

I use a Kai flexible bones. Wife even likes it.
A little more maybe, but $20?

Hard to beat the $20 kabar dozier for a folder.

If they feature something affordable and plentiful
in a movie or video or book, it'll become a fad
and get to be trendy and popular with the yuppie
crowd, then become scarce and expensive.
I have several different kinds of the old Normark
and Garcia knives that were relatively cheap
back then when I bought them.
The mora type plastic handle and plastic sheath
knives in the Normark packaging were about $5.00
The Opinels were dirt cheap too. The $5 00 dollar
ones are around $14.00 now

Most all of the wally world stores around here have
a "mora" lookalike in the fishing section as a bait knife
They're like $4.00, and you can hit em a couple of
times on a steel and they're razor sharp
I bought a half a dozen or so for JIC stash here and
there knives, but I haven't used one extensively.
The chinee folders at the gun counter are also
about $4.00 and I have a couple I've used outside
for working in the yard knives. They sharpen up
with a couple of whacks on a steel or ceramic rod
and hold up pretty good. But. . . they're all liner locks (yuk)

I like the Pendleton Lite Hunter from Cold Steel as well as any cheap knife, but their Canadian Belt Knife isn't a poor choice either if you like that style of knife.

For under $100 you can get a wide vaiety of well designed knives from Buck or even a custom knife, like the Landi Bushcraft Junior, from Collectorknives.net.

I use the Pendelton Lite hunter CMP 3v as a necker. All I needed to clean out my last deer. Good knife. Small and stays sharp.

knapped flint and other rocks worked well for hundreds of thousands of years. Pretty cheap

I'm a big fan of Browning fixed blade knives: they're well made and hold up well in the field. But the sheathes are a little cheezy so I replace them with custom leather from a source I located through eBay.

I prefer the Cold Steel Roach Belly over the Morakniv.

Yep. Me too. Hell of a knife for the $$$

I’m sure you can find them cheaper on Amazon.

Cold steel Pendleton lite also.

Am I the only one who considers a Spyderco Delica a cheap knife?
Posted By: gaswamp Re: Cheap knives - 08/26/21
mora is a great knife for the money...bear and sons has son reasonably priced fixed blade knives model 753 and 751 for about $35
Posted By: JeffyD Re: Cheap knives - 08/26/21
Most of my knives were bought "used" on www.bladeforums.com classifieds. Some really nice knives for less than retail, including a custom made by Seth Borries of Southern Longbeard Knives, pre-owned but never used, for half of it's retail price.

I have some Schrade stuff, and it has been great. Tough durable and fairly priced. That said, some of their products are not well made. Read some reviews here, and if it fits your needs and is well-reviewed, their stuff will likely serve you well.

I've been quite happy with the Ratt 1 by Ontario. I bought the D2 tool steel version. The D2 tool steel knives start around $45, so I don't know if that would qualify as a cheap knife.

For a cheaper drop point hunting knife I currently use the two sizes of Bucklite Max II. The large has a 4 in blade, the small a 3 1/4 in blade. They are drop Points in 420 HC steel. I have some original ones with orange handles too.

I like Mora Knives and some of the economy Cold Steel also, especially the Pendleton Lite Hunter that others have mentioned.

As far as cheap knives, is there anything better than those suggested? Probably not.
If the question is there a better cutting tool(knife) than those listed, yes;very many, yes.

FDick flexible boner is about all I ever use once I get an animal home.

Think I'll try a couple of those, thanks for the link.

Mine were cheaper than china mart or flea market knock offs.

It's hard to beat free. The best butchering blades made.
My Uncle was the head butcher for a large grocery franchise in this part of the state. We processed our own deer when we went hunting and he passed his high carbon set onto Dad and me.
They are easy to sharpen to a toothy edge. They hold that edge as long as I need to get the job done. Nice looking patina. They Should outlast me.

There's another set that I'll share the story with you all another time.

Ontario makes some very good budget priced steel.
IMHO, it would be hard to find that overall quality in the price range.

Byrd meadowlark. Cheap version of a spyderco Delica
Ontario rat 2.

Couple cheapies I like.

My cheap carry while at work is a folding craftsman utility knife. $9.99 at your local menards

Beretta has its Loveless Drop Point Hunter with black handle on sale for 35 bucks plus shipping.

No idea if it is worth a damn or not.

Don't see why anyone would pay $65 more for the orange handle style, but if it makes them happy then I'm happy for them.

Me either. Sales of the black handled ones must have been slow or something. I went ahead and ordered a black one. For the price, what the heck.

I've got one. It's Japanese made from the inexpensive AUS6... still, it's a lot of knife for $40. I wouldn't give $100 for it.

I don't happen to like how thick the blade is (5mm above the bolster) and the handle is just a bit too small for my hands.

Spyderco's Z-knife with the SpyderEdge is a great value.

Not necessarily for the field but for the kitchen or camp.

Have a few of these.

You won't find a better made field knife for the price point.

Japanese!

I have Morakniv's stashed all around, but I hate that dang scandi grind.

Why the Victornox can't come with a simple plastic sheath is beyond me.

I like Opinels in a few sizes/shapes. A No. 6 is always in my pocket

I really like Opinel's too. I carry a no.6 on backpack trips when I plan on fishing. It's the perfect size and weight for cutting up highcountry trout.

This year I carried the no. 8 elk hunting, and had the opportunity to use it to completely take apart a bull. Worked great, and the no. 6 would have worked just as well. I just decided I preferred the slightly larger handle of the no.8 for such a big task. At the end of the day, I do prefer a fixed blade that doesn't gunk up as much.

They're a lot of knife for a little money.
