I currently have two,one I showed here in another topic
I have two more on order.
Charles May is one fine individual, and makes a great knife.I see you guys here know this, but I wanted to share these images I have.
These were knives I've had,I no longer own them, but will make a good reference for anyone on his list, not sure what to order.I cosider my hand large, not real large but not small either,so if you see an "in hand picture",it'll give you an idea.
Hope to help & kinda like a tribute, too.Feel free to add to it,Thanks,
-Vince
This first one I recently sold here in the classifieds,it is a pocket rocket,Charlie now calls these a Bob White
This is an S3OV Scandi clip pt,the scales are "Lager Ale" G-10 with black liners
This is a bird & trout,also S30V & a scandi,same scales as above
Necker pouch
This is the same bird & trout above with a Bob White spear pt,that has tan G-10 & black liners
It is seen here with a Paul Long sheath, that worked with the knife
I think Charlies leather is some of the best I've ever had
Here is the Bob White in it's pocket pouch from Charles, and the B&T in a necker style pouch
Here is an up close of the B&T Scandi blade &grind
Same knife,the Trace,different pictures.With necker style sheath
The Trace & Refuge have the same handle pretty much, and the Holt Collier & Slitter, same handles ,pretty much
You can see I like that little Bob White knife (formerly "Pocket Rocket"),and I think the Scandi grind Charlie does is really great
I have a Holt Collier Scandi on order
Another great model,the Big Hand
I've had a Lil' Bladie May,too
Hope this helps you for ideas, either way, enjoy the shots,
-Vince
Found one more,I owned this one once, not my picture though.A Slitter with a Scandi grind & Stellar Sea Cow bone scales
Very nice. I have a Scandi Grind Slitter with Green micarta for tge handle on order. Should see it +- this time next spring. OK Feb isn't exactly Spring......
You sold that top Bob White here on the 'fire? That is a sharp little knife. I could use one of those.
All NICE. The little Bobwhite seems like a great "do it all" knife. I hope to post up by Friday
!!! hint hint... Say hello to my Lil' Friend...
Jeez! Stop posting such pictures and bringing such a pornographic thread to the top! I'm trying to avoid ordering a Charles May knife -- and this is NOT helping!
John
JWill, yeah I sold it a couple weeks ago, here on the Campfire classifieds to a lucky guy in CA.
jpb & all,I did this thread, not to show off,but to show some combo's of scale materials & grinds
Buying & selling knives over time has forced me to try to take a decent picture.
I wish, when I was ordering knives from any one maker there is a thread to go look as a reference as to what some models look like & in the hand shots, too
So,if anyone wants to add here it will be a good reference thread,Thanks,
-Vince
Vince:
Absolutely! I have saved everything to my hard disk... Going to be tough to resist much longer when I can come back and look at your fine pictures anytime I want!
John
The pictures are good for me to have & go look at the nice ones I sold off, when I'm missing them, what a dope.I just can't afford to keep them all at once.I like a few other types of knives & from other makers, too,so it's tuff
That little Handi Scandi I posted in another thread here, well, that was one I was able to recently get back & glad I did
A few. Big Hand, Holt Collier, Warncliffe, 'Lil bladie Mae, FireAnt
This is getting good,Thanks !
-Vince
You guys are making it difficult to wait.......only 13 months to go......
Vince... I bought that S30V Scandi B&T from you on knifeforums! I love it dude! Small world.
cocomen69,How are ya' ? How is that knife cutting for you ? Those Scandi's are deceiving, aren't they?
-Vince
Doing good Vince! The knife is great. It was my first Scandi knife, it sharpens like a breeze, because the grind is the bevel, and it cuts like h*ll. Its a cool little knife. If you have any others you wanna dump, just feel free to PM me. Grin.
Glad to hear
I've been on like a "buy it back" type trip, lately :
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...owflat/Number/2004291/page/2#Post2004291I have a nice pair on order from Charles as well.
-Vince
Good on You Vince! Charley's knives need good homes! Ifn ya gets tired of her, let me know!
Vince,
I'm glade you and the other guy's like Charlie's knives. Charlie is friend and I have several of his knives. One is one of his very early knives that he says was a reject but it is still a dang good knife. It has dressed about 50 head of game and is just now needing an edge.
Cole I think one time Charlie told me of your knife,"the imperfect",in a brief conversation.
You tell him I says hi,I told him about this topic here & how I wanted it to be for a reference, for the guys waitin' for thier orders to be filled. If your not sure on what you want for a specific model,or what scales on them.Me,I like'em all,but that's another story
Good to meet you Cole,
-Vince
I had this on another thread, but since you guys are grouping Charlie's knives, here is my Lil' Big woods with dyed bone scales.
Sakoluvr, that is definitely a fine addition to the topic! The bone on that knife is really nice looking & that handle & blade profile is really handy looking Goes back to the "I like 'em all" theory Thanks for adding it here,
-Vince
Here's one I've posted before. I owned this for a few minutes. Made the mistake of letting my wife see it. Its her's now...
Vincem - any chance you still have the photos you started this thread with? Researching and would love to see them.

I do not have a lot of those pics anymore,Sorry.
But here is a shot at Charlie's new model, the "Tallahatchie",next to the slightly larger trace.
Canvas & linen,natural micarta's
The next ivory knife Charlie is doing for me is a "Tallahatchie".
The next ivory knife Charlie is doing for me is a "Tallahatchie".
That should be really ,really nice !! I really like this pattern
I only have one. (until the next one arrives
)
Trace:
Vince, in your photos. Does the Talahatchie have the linen micarta scales and the Trace the natural canvas micarta?

That is correct.
I really like the look of the linen micarta.
I'm liking the bob white and cotton mouth 2. Thanks for the great pictures.
Anyone held the cottonmouth?
Bob white is tempting too...

If I'mnot mistaken,I think the cottonmouth has a blade like on the Fire Ant,with a longer more full handle.
I do not think I've heald any one May knife I did nt like. They are designed for usage of some sort.

Man, those are some sweet knives...!
Trace:
That's a good looking knife. Simple and functional. Nice lines.

looks like a Slitter to me.
I really like that color on that G-10 Vince, His knives are sure top notch and have to say his pouches are just as impressive, maybe nicest I have seen.

On the card from him it says Olive G-10 I like the way it has that grain look to it. Just good looking.
He has a nice selection of different styles ,too. Charlie offers something for just about everyone.
I think his stuff is pretty unique. You can sure tell it's a May before you ever see his makers mark on the blade. His work is clean and crisp...like an Ingram. Only different.

I agree, sharp looking knife!
I like the blade on that mid skinner Vince.
I love his scandi grinds. They are true work horses!
I like that one to Vince. Nice one you have there.
Reno

His Scandi grind is as good as it gets. Have it on all my mine.
I thought his Bench Barlow looked pretty cool so I have one on the way, just shipped last week, not with the Scandi though.
Thinking it will be a cool addition.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Man, I'm diggin that knife
Roy, I remember seeing that particular knife before when you posted it. It's really unique...that blade profile looks darn good with that Slitter handle. I don't think Charlie is as agreeable to changing his models around as some of the other makers are...so you're fortunate to have that one...!
That knife and the Bob White are my absolute favorites from Charlie. Charlie used to be alittle unreceptive to any changes to his patterns, but I have ordered quite a few blades for him and he let me make some changes to his regular offerings. He's a real nice guy to do business with and his fit and finish is outstanding. He puts a flawless hand rubbed finish on his blades and they come to you razor frickin sharp. On that one I had him slightly redude the blade height (from spine to cutting edge as well and it is identical to Gene Ingram's " Lite Hunter " pattern.
I'm equally impressed with his work.
