I was cleaning up the kitchen after two teenage girls and when I put a knife away I saw an old sod buster that I had forgotten about. It was my grandparents and I simply have not thought about it in years.

It is a Carl Schlieper marked Carl Schlieper Soligen Germany on one side and D.R.G.M. 1423923 on the other side. It look like this knife:

I was thinking about buying a Case blue Sod Buster but I think this one will clean up okay, the wood is dry and the blade rusty but probably a pretty good blade. It still snaps open and closed nicely and the scales are tight.

Any suggestions on refinishing would be appreciated.
Put some lemon oil on the wood
I use lemon oil also. Howards Feed and Wax is also very good.

Try Flitz on the metal and see if anything further is needed/ wanted.

Blast the crud out of it with air compressor, or just clean it out. Then light coat of oil.....
my boy has one just like that one that his granddad gave him, still very tight for as old as it is
D.R.G.M. = kinda like Patented. If it doesn't have too much sentimental value, I would use it. I have my wife's Dad's in a safe place for the family.
