Been reading "time to hunt" by Stephen Hunter.

A story about Bob Lee in VietNam.

Anyway, he packed a Randall knife hanging in a harness. Hard to picture it from a book

I'm thinking it hung from his chest, near his shoulder where he could grab his knife handle near the bottom of his rib cage.

Anyone ever hear of a harness similar to this? Kinda like a shoulder holster for a pistol, but made for a knife.

Got me to thinking, something like this might be pretty handy.

Thanks!

Tell Sackett carried that Arkansas Toothpick in some kind of rig similar to what you describe.
Easy access on horseback and concealment under your coat(serape).

Tom Maringer made one for a series of knives he made, it hung from his right arm pit. He had it made out of kydex and the front side was not Riveted. he could grab it with his hand and snap it straight out of the sheath very quickly.

for many years, I have carried knives using a baldric style sheath. keeps them handy.

Sam;

That's good looking setup!

Hard to tell from the picture, dose the knife hang horizontal or vertical?

Looks like more horizontal but I'm not sure.

Could you post a picture of the harness on your person?

And, where could I find one of these baldric style sheaths?

Thanks!

The knife hangs horizontal. You can take the sheath off of the baldric strap, and attach it to the belt dangler. I’ll try to find a picture of it in use.
I designed the system some years back, and keep adding fitted sheaths as I acquire new knives. I talked Dwayne Puckett, owner of Armorall Leather in Texas into making it for me. Ain’t cheap, but the quality is stunning. I wanted baldric carry to keep my blade dry when hunting or hiking in a swamp.
